The Construction Manager is accountable for field management of construction contractors, focusing on safety, quality, schedule and cost, while addressing technical issues that arise during execution. The role requires a strong knowledge of construction safety standards and best practices as it relates to the petrochemical industry, industrial construction methods, technical standards, and economic factors related to site capital projects.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
A leader in safety on assigned projects including setting safety and environmental performance expectations of contractors and holding them accountable through standard daily walkthroughs.
Oversees daily construction, commissioning and start-up support for site capital projects.
Participates on project teams to help develop execution strategies which meet stakeholder expectations, reduce field change orders, and drive a strong safety culture within our field contractor teams.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that scope, budget and schedule are planned and managed according to expectations throughout the construction execution process.
In cooperation with the site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) organization, accountable for securing safe work permits for contractors, ensuring all applicable daily permits are in place before the start of work, and monitoring compliance with required permits throughout the day.
Promotes a strong culture of safety by partnering with the site EHS team to monitor, audit, and coach field contractors on safe work best practices.
Participates in constructability reviews during the FEED process and helps to build field execution strategies prior to contractor mobilization.
Coordinates the installation of temporary construction support facilities with input from site leadership and contractors, with an emphasis on worker safety and productivity.
Involved with the contractor selection process and gives input to Project Teams during general contractor and EPC RFP generation.
Manages construction productivity and schedule performance, while giving constant feedback to contractors and project teams on opportunities for improvement.
Responsible for creating basic construction schedules for smaller capital projects that can be utilized to track progress in the field.
Ability and willingness to work off shift, as required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 10 years of experience in comparable role in an industrial experience)
Minimum of 5 years of construction/commissioning/construction projects experience
Desired Characteristics
Minimum of 10 years' experience managing field contractors in an industrial setting, preferably the petrochemical industry
Strong knowledge of OSHA work standards related to industrial construction activity
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or an Associates Degree
Completion of OSHA 500 course and 3 years of training OSHA 10- and 30-hour classes
Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization.
Excellent team management and relationship building skills.
Ability to delegate to field support staff and maintain supervision of functional responsibilities
Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Products, Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6
Knowledge of project stage gate process
Working experience at a PSM regulated site
