Summary of Role:
GlobalFoundries (GF) is seeking a leader for its self-managed utility, GF Power LLC, for its Semiconductor Manufacturing campus in Essex Junction, Vermont. This senior leader will be responsible for meeting the Vermont Renewable Energy Standard (RES) requirements. Reporting directly to the President of GF Power, this leader will head the campus energy transition initiative and serve as a key leader in the Facilities organization. This individual will partner with internal and external parties on the installation of on-campus solar and battery storage projects in progress and will shape our energy strategy and portfolio into the future. Furthermore, this role will grow to lead the electricity efficiency program of the campus, scoping and then launching programs that improve our energy footprint. As Vermont's largest manufacturer, and the third largest utility in the state of Vermont, this job is a remarkable opportunity to influence the energy transition not just for the benefit of GF, but also for our state.
Essential Responsibilities:
Work hand in hand with our Global Supply Management team, as well as internal and external counsel, to shape our electric energy supply portfolio, including defining the strategy to meet our RES requirements. Integrate campus projects into GF Power's portfolio for renewable energy compliance.
Work with our solar developer, Encore Renewable Energy, to build 20MW+ of on-site solar generation. Manage the relationship and coordinate activities between Encore, counsel, and external consultants with regulatory authorities, including the Vermont Department of Public Service and the Public Utility Commission (PUC) as needed. Ensure we drive the solar projects on schedule, breaking ground on the 1st phase of projects in 2025. Transition the projects to the facilities electrical engineering operations team.
Work with our developer, Lightshift Energy, to install 15MW battery storage facility onsite. Continue to build the relationship, driving a schedule and supporting the regulatory permitting processes as needed. Transition the projects to the facilities electrical engineering operations team.
Leverage and grow external relationships with new and existing parties, forging potential new partnerships on clean energy projects to fulfill our commitment.
Lead the day-to-day management of GF Power Utility Operations, including the progression from its current transition agreement with Green Mountain Power to a fully independent and self-managed utility.
Navigate any new or potential Vermont energy requirements proposed by the Legislature or State Agencies, alongside our internal and external government relations and consulting teams.
Partner with GF's environmental and Fabricator teams to complete greenhouse gas reduction projects on campus for RES Tier III qualifications.
Own monthly cost reporting, annual budgeting for electricity.
Monitor the electricity consumption across the GF campus via the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
Launch programs that improve energy efficiency and achieve our SMEEP requirements alongside our talented staff of facilities systems engineers, mechanical experts, and manufacturing equipment engineers. The leader will be able to tap into our facilities central engineering team, data scientists, and experts across all GF Fabs in Vermont, New York, Germany, and Singapore. This individual will need to collaborate with the Facilities Operations team, who have the responsibility in determining the needs of existing utility infrastructure to constantly improve resiliency and reliability of the overall systems. The position will provide technical leadership in assuring a cooperative teamwork approach to the design, construction, and turnover process of campus energy improvement projects.
This position can have the opportunity to grow into a northeast energy role to partner with our team at Fab 8 in Malta, NY.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Partner with our Government Relations and Consulting Teams
Testify, as needed, at the Vermont State House and other public events representing GF Power
Participate in quarterly Utility Vermont State System Planning Committee meetings and other Vermont Utility and Regional Energy meetings.
Required Qualifications:
Education - BS in Engineering Management, Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant Power-related field
Experience - 3 Years experience in management in a leadership role in utility design or operations. Minimum 5 years of engineering and hands-on technical expertise with energy systems. Experience with large scale capital projects. Experience with utility planning.
Skills - Knowledge of Energy regulatory requirements & compliance. Demonstrated skills in Project management. Strong strategic and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in an environment that requires an understanding of multiple stakeholders' positions. Exhibit exceptional communication and presentation skills.
Travel - Up to 10%
Fluency in English Language - both written & verbal
Expected Salary Range
$107,400.00 - $204,500.00
