Job Title: Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking technician to join our team at the Chiquita Landfill. This role involves performing general labor and environmental technician work, including digging, adding dirt over trash, and cleaning gas flares. The position requires flexibility in working hours, as occasional weekend work may be needed. If candidates demonstrate aptitude, they may also take on responsibilities as a gas technician, operating and maintaining landfill gas recovery and migration control systems.

Responsibilities

Perform general labor tasks, including digging and adding dirt over trash at the landfill.

Clean the inside of gas flares, which burn trash and convert it into gas.

Operate and maintain landfill gas recovery and migration control systems.

Monitor emissions and ensure landfill safety.

Assist site foremen with various tasks as needed.

Demonstrate initiative by finding tasks to complete without being instructed.

Essential Skills

Experience in site labor and field service.

Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors for 8-10 hours a day.

Comfortable working in a landfill environment with unpleasant smells.

Reliable transportation and a clean driving record.

Strong initiative and ability to work independently.

Basic computer literacy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in environmental field work or construction.

Mechanical aptitude.

HAZWOPER certification is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based at a landfill, which involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. The role is not extremely physical, but there are physical aspects to it. Candidates should be comfortable working in an environment with unpleasant smells. Reliable transportation is essential, as carpooling issues have been problematic in the past.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Castaic, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
