Role Description
Location: Hybrid role based in Kingsport, TN (relocation package available)
The Marketing Leader is responsible for building the capability to understand the future of markets and defining the strategy and tactics required for growth, innovation and margin realization. Develops positioning and identifies and prioritizes opportunities to pursue for growth. Leads initiatives required to grow and provides new specialized solutions to create sustainable value for customers and the company. Is a strategic stakeholder for the business organization or innovation platforms. Ensures an external perspective is considered when developing business strategies, scoping growth initiatives, and leading market-facing growth projects. Identifies and selects resources needed to develop and execute business strategies, market activation plans, marketing communications plans, and to lead/participate on growth projects.
Develops global pricing strategies and product positioning aligned with the overall business strategy. Collaborates with other related businesses to ensure decisions taken consider the implications across the value streams in Eastman.
Accountabilities:
Annual Earnings: Revenue (volume), market share, Variable margin delivery
Innovation/Growth: Vitality Index; builds growth portfolio strategy and provide oversight to ensure portfolio will deliver on targets; Develops initiatives for geographic expansions and inorganic projects.
Stage Gate: Growth project portfolio - Gate 3 and 5 passed year 2 revenue and value add (future); new business from launches, launch effectiveness (year 2 revenue actual vs. G5 forecast)
Capabilities/Talent Management: Attracts, develops, and retains a high-performing team and continually strengthens marketing capabilities in individuals and the organization
Activities: Marketing Strategy, Initiatives launched (projects, strategy development, etc.), Gatekeeping, funnel build for portfolio (Opportunities moved to In Funnel and Best Few), adoption and use of Enabling Business & Marketing Excellence (EBME) framework, formal assessments of market development capability of individual marketers and their managers for marketing proficiency
Responsibilities
Defines the market strategy and tactics required to grow profitably
Collects, monitors and interprets market and customer trends, and competitive landscape
Anticipates shifts in the environment that impact our customers and our business
Understands competitive strategies and anticipates actions
Develops segmentation, targets, and positioning and identifies/prioritizes opportunities to pursue for growth
Feeds innovation pipeline
Drives service and solution offerings
Aligns organization and resources
Drives growth and manages the profitability and performance of existing and pending sales
Participates on portfolio management team to set growth portfolio strategy and provide guidance to gatekeepers for Stage-Gate regarding portfolio expectations
As a gatekeeper, ensures the best projects are in the portfolio (aligned with strategy) and that projects are resourced for success
Facilitates the launch and commercialization efforts for new offerings in partnership with product management and technology
Coaches Stage-Gate project teams and Gatekeepers on EBME
Leads the initiatives required to grow and provides new specialized solutions to create sustainable value for customers and the company
Ensures integration of business, product, and customer strategies to ensure consistency, alignment, and actionability
Leads, directs and develops the capability of marketing team members
Identifies and prioritizes market/customer research opportunities
Supports inorganic growth strategies
Provides key integration for marketing communications and business organization by driving development of clear and actionable behavioral objectives that inform robust marketing communications plans and tactics
Supports continual improvement for EBME and Stage Gate training at direction of Corporate Steward of EBME and Stage-Gate
Required Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree; strategic marketing or related discipline. MBA degree highly preferred
15+ years prior experience in sales, marketing, or product management
Strong business/financial acumen
Demonstrated knowledge of marketing acumen / tools or frameworks to enable business & marketing excellence, Stage-Gate, etc. - EBME expert (or experience with a similar frameworks outside of Eastman)
Strong technical/IP knowledge, market and customer strategy and planning experience
Extensive knowledge of global markets/customers
The Consultative Process (TCP), Strategic Selling and Negotiation skills
