Mechanical Engineering Intern

SUMMARY:

Aeroseal is looking for a Summer Engineering Intern - Field Productivity & R&D to assist us in our mission to scale field operations and next-generation sealing technologies. This role will support initiatives focused on doubling field productivity, improving equipment portability and setup efficiency, and conducting applied R&D on advanced atomization technologies beyond traditional mechanical pump systems.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

· Currently pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field

· Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, or equivalent)

· Hands-on experience with CNC machining, fabrication, and GD&T

· Familiarity with mechatronics, sensors, and basic control systems

· Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, Arduino/embedded systems) is a plus

· Strong analytical and experimental skills; comfortable working in lab and field-adjacent environments

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Support field productivity initiatives by analyzing deployment workflows and identifying design or process improvements that increase jobs-per-day capacity.

· Develop and modify CAD designs (fixtures, brackets, tooling, enclosures) to improve equipment portability, setup speed, and reliability.

· Assist with rapid prototyping and fabrication to validate design improvements.

· Conduct applied research on atomization technologies (e.g., ultrasonic, electrostatic, pneumatic, thermal, or hybrid approaches) as alternatives to mechanical pumping systems.

· Build test rigs, execute experiments, and analyze data to evaluate spray performance, reliability, and scalability.

Expected Outcomes:

· Field Productivity Enablement: Delivers at least 1-2 validated design or workflow improvements (CAD + proto@type) that reduce setup time and support higher jobs-per-day in the field.

· Actionable Atomization Techniques: Completes focused atomization research with bench testing and data-backed recommendations on viable alternatives or enhancements to mechanical pump systems.

· Reusable Engineering Assets: Produces production-ready CAD, test fixtures, and documentation that can be directly reused by the engineering team post-internship.

The estimated pay range for this role is $11000. Actual pay is based on various factors including, but not limited to, the successful candidate's experience, skills, knowledge, and job location. Please note that the compensation details listed in role postings reflect the base salary and do not include bonuses or benefits.
