Director of Industrial Health and Safety A leadership role responsible for overseeing department-wide industrial health and safety programs to support safe operations and regulatory compliance. WHAT EXACTLY DOES A DIRECTOR OF INDUSTRIAL HEALTH AND SAFETY DO? The primary function of this role is to direct and manage department-wide industrial health and safety programs. Responsibilities include developing safety policies and procedures, conducting inspections and hazard assessments, overseeing accident investigations and reporting, coordinating training programs, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, PESH, and other applicable regulations. Does related work as required.

Develops and maintains a WEP-wide health and safety policy and procedures manual and programs to support same.

Develops measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.

Reviews legislation and rules and regulations affecting safety and health standards and advises on the need for modifying policies and procedures.

Develops, coordinates and conducts industrial health and safety training programs in accordance with regulatory requirements or as identified by the County.

Conducts regular inspections to observe conditions and work practices to provide feedback, as well as inspections of accidents and loss sites to determine causes.

Participates in the Investigation of accidents and injuries and prepares materials for County use in hearings, litigation and insurance investigations.

Supervises the procedures for reporting of accidents including workers compensation.

Provides on-site job safety/site safety analysis.

Acts as liaison with County and state agencies to ensure regulatory compliance. This list is not exhaustive. Additional duties are outlined in the official job description. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A) Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, Risk Management or a closely related field and four (4) years of professional level work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the implementation of safety programs, industrial safety, or in the insurance field performing site inspections or investigation claims related to loss or safety, OR; B) Eight (8) years of professional level work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the implementation of safety programs, industrial safety, or in the insurance field performing site inspections or investigation claims related to loss or safety. *Professional level work experience is defined as specialized and theoretical knowledge acquired through college education or through experience and training which provides comparable knowledge. Professional experience in general involves independence of action and personal responsibility for actions. SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT Possession of a current OSHA or PESH certification at time of appointment. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification within 90 days of appointment.
