JOB TITLE: Software Engineer IV - DevSecOps and Deployment Automation Engineer

ABOUT US: Fathom 4 (www.fathom4.com) is the kind of defense services company that you've always wanted to work with... and for. We strive to take care of all the people we support, including our employees, clients, troops, and community. We are in the people business, and that principle is what drives our culture. We hire people for a career, not just a particular project. When we concentrate on genuinely taking care of you, we know you will do what you can to care for the client. Fathom 4 grows when we build teams that feel the same way. Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

THE OPPORTUNITY Fathom 4 is seeking an experienced engineer to help transform how our customers build, test, and deploy IT systems. Our goal is to replace manual, time-consuming IT system integration processes with automated, repeatable deployment pipelines capable of delivering complete system baselines, including Windows laptops, RHEL virtual machines, and containerized applications. We're looking for someone who can design the approach, select the right tools, and turn the vision into a working solution. This work takes place in secure DoD environments where CUI, classified systems, disconnected networks, and cybersecurity requirements introduce unique challenges. We need an engineer who can navigate these constraints, develop practical solutions, and make meaningful progress without waiting for perfect conditions. The ideal candidate combines strong technical fundamentals, creative problem-solving, and communication skills to bring others along with their vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Architect and implement end-to-end CI/CD pipelines for automated system builds, testing, security validation, and deployment.

Automate provisioning and configuration of Windows and Linux systems, virtual machines, containers, and supporting infrastructure.

Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, and scripting to create consistent, reproducible system baselines.

Integrate automated testing, cybersecurity scanning, STIG compliance, and release management into deployment workflows.

Evaluate technologies and develop solutions appropriate for secure, restricted, and disconnected DoD environments.

Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, and government stakeholders to demonstrate solutions, communicate technical direction, and drive adoption. MINIMUM SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION

BS degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or in a relevant IT major from an ABET accredited program required.

Agile Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification.

EXPERIENCE

7+ Demonstrated experience designing, building, or improving automated IT infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, or software deployment processes.

Strong working knowledge of Windows or Linux systems, virtualization, containers, and networking fundamentals.

Proficiency in scripting or automation using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible, or equivalent technologies.

Familiarity with Git-based development, CI/CD concepts, automated testing, and configuration management.

SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES:

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to independently research, evaluate, and implement solutions.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical approaches, build consensus, and translate ideas into actionable plans.

We value engineers who understand how systems work and can learn new tools over those who simply have experience with a particular technology stack.

SECURITY CLEARANCE

Must be a US Citizen

Current DoD SECRET minimum security clearance preferred or the ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance is required. A SECRET level security clearance is required as military base and facility access is critical and must be maintained throughout employment.

LOCATION

The work location is N. Charleston, SC, with 0-5% travel expected. This is an on-site position.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar automation platforms.

Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.

Experience automating Windows imaging, RHEL deployments, or complete system baselines.

Familiarity with DISA STIGs, ACAS, SCAP, RMF, and DoD cybersecurity requirements.

Experience working in CUI, classified, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted environments.

Previous NIWC, DoD, or defense systems integration experience.
