Job Summary:

The ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice are exemplified within this Job Description. The Nurse is responsible for utilizing the Nursing Process to provide nursing care for the patient throughout their life span. Assumes responsibility for the outcome of nursing care delivered on their shift.

The Charge RN acts as a front line supervisor and clinical resource for the department. Demonstrates clinical expertise and assists and mentors nursing personnel on the unit, in patient planning and overall patient care management on a shift by shift basis. Provides direction to staff to facilitate meeting patient outcomes and coordinates staff assignments and duties, assists with completing the monthly staffing schedule for the unit.

The Registered Nurse demonstrates effective leadership skills and supports the nursing department's philosophy, objectives, and vision for empowered nursing practice and assists in short and long range planning for the nursing unit and department.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.

Coordinates the flow of patients transferring in and out of the unit

Communicates the staffing needs of the unit and bed availability.

Assists with the collection and maintenance of Performance Improvement Tools as needed.

Conducts or participates in interdisciplinary rounds as appropriate.

Communicates with physicians, families, community agencies, social services, home care, and other disciplines.

Facilitates resolution of physician/family concerns and reports to proper management as necessary.
