Description

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join an insurance organization in Sparta, New Jersey. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is well suited for an early-career accounting specialist who enjoys accurate, high-volume transactional work and can balance independent execution with cross-functional collaboration. The role follows a hybrid schedule with on-site work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote work on the remaining weekdays, with standard hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:

Process daily payment activity within the general ledger environment while coordinating with internal teams and external contacts to keep transactions moving efficiently.

Review invoice submissions and payment requests to confirm coding, supporting details, and overall accuracy before approval and processing.

Reconcile selected invoices and ledger accounts, identifying mismatches and resolving outstanding items in a timely manner.

Investigate payment exceptions or discrepancies and take corrective action to ensure issues are addressed promptly and completely.

Maintain organized records of accounts payable activity to support audit readiness and accurate financial reporting.

Assist with ACH transactions, check runs, and other disbursement activities in accordance with established procedures.

Manage a steady volume of payable transactions while meeting deadlines and maintaining close attention to detail.

Requirements - High school diploma required.

One to two years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, or a related accounting support function.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Familiarity with invoice coding, account coding, and payment processing activities such as ACH or check runs.

Exposure to a general ledger platform, such as Oracle PeopleSoft or a comparable system, is preferred.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a high-volume environment.

Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.

Proven ability to work independently, analyze issues, and resolve routine payment-related problems.
