Summary
The Assistant Manager of Health Information Management Services (HIMS) supports the daily operations of the HIMS department, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and security of patient health information. This role plays a key part in optimizing workflows within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system, enhancing user experience for clinical and administrative staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Essential Responsibilities
Organize, supervise and direct the health information management functions of all Human Health departments.
Hire, train, manage and evaluate HIIM staff members.
Generate and analyze reports related to HIM performance metrics.
Monitor health information management policies and procedures on release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention.
Work in conjunction with Assistant Director of Patient Accounts on quality control program to ensure accuracy, timeliness, productivity, and service quality.
Provide education and training to the healthcare system's employees in areas relevant to health information management policies and procedures.
Support and facilitate clinical, administrative, and external data use functions.
Monitor changes in legislation and accreditation standards and local and national trends that affect health information management.
Support change and participate in development, interpretation, implementation and evaluation of process improvement as well as changes directed by regulatory agencies. Work with staff to make necessary changes.
Work with senior management to establish organization-wide HIM best practices.
Serve as subject matter expert for Epic HIM modules including chart corrections Identity, Release of Information, and Document Management.
Participate in various University and clinic audits as it related to health information management.
Participate as a member on various clinic committees
Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Midwestern an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors at all times.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred. RHIA, RHIT, CEHRS, or equivalent credential preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years of healthcare information management experience. 1-2 years of supervisory or lead experience preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. Must be able to work independently and multi-task working on several projects at once. Strong knowledge of healthcare information regulations and compliance. Epic experience preferred.
Computer Skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with Medical Practice Management systems, EHR, payer websites, clearinghouses.
