Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support a healthcare organization in Santa Rosa, California on a Contract basis. This opportunity is well suited for an accounting specialist who is comfortable working across core general ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end support in a fast-paced environment. The role requires strong analytical ability, solid Excel skills, and the ability to maintain accuracy while assisting with a range of day-to-day accounting operations.

Responsibilities:

Reconcile bank activity and investigate discrepancies to ensure records remain accurate and current.

Examine accounts payable invoices for completeness, coding accuracy, and proper approval before processing.

Prepare and review journal entries, including adjustments needed to support accurate financial reporting.

Perform account reconciliations across balance sheet and operating statement accounts and resolve outstanding items.

Record and post cash receipts in a timely manner while maintaining clear supporting documentation.

Oversee prepaid expense and fixed asset activity within Intacct modules, including updates and tracking.

Contribute to the monthly close by organizing schedules, completing assigned accounting tasks, and meeting reporting deadlines.

Provide support to the Controller on assigned projects and assist with departmental coverage when other accounting team members are unavailable. Requirements - At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.

Hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger account analysis.

Working knowledge of balance sheets, operating statements, and month-end accounting processes.

Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze data and work efficiently with spreadsheets.

Demonstrated attention to detail and sound analytical problem-solving ability.

Experience reviewing accounts payable activity and processing cash receipts.

Familiarity with Intacct is preferred; experience with Bill.com or Paycom is a plus.
