Summary See below for important information regarding this job. Responsibilities Leads three or more employees in a section where the primary function is preservation. Passes instructions received from supervisors to other workers and starts work operations by assigning the immediate tasks to individual members of the group. Ensures required plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that necessary stock is obtained from supply locations. Demonstrates proper work methods and techniques, obtains required information from the supervisor when problems arise, and enforces safety protocols and workplace housekeeping rules. Maintains current operational knowledge and answers team questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Ensures there is a sufficient volume of work to keep the entire crew productive and monitors work in progress and inspects completed tasks to ensure Instructions on sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines are met. Updates the supervisor on work status, operational progress, and the causes of any delays; and answers supervisory inquiries regarding overall work operations and challenges. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Physical Effort: Must continuously lift and handle items weighing up to 45 pounds, and occasionally heavier items with assistance or by utilizing mechanical devices. The incumbent typically stands and works on concrete or asphalt surfaces for extended periods, requiring continuous bending, reaching, and hand-and-arm dexterity. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to work in awkward positions or on ladders for prolonged periods. Working Conditions: Typically works indoors in areas that are occasionally hot, cold, damp, or drafty, with occasional outdoor work required. The incumbent is subject to the following environmental and safety conditions: occasional exposure to dangerous or irritating fumes, vapors, acids or caustic substances; frequent exposure to dust, dirt, oil, grease, and similar materials that may soil hands or clothing; frequent exposure to hazards causing cuts and scrapes; and exposure to moderate noise levels. Safety and Health Requirements: The employee is required to wear safety clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate for the assigned job and work area, as directed by the supervisor. Required protective gear includes, but are not limited: eye, respiratory, and foot protection, as well as protective garments such as gloves, aprons, and coveralls. Additional safety equipment may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. If working near or around noise-hazardous areas, machinery, or equipment, the employee is required to wear approved hearing protection devices and undergo audiometric testing, as necessary. Drug-Free Workplace Policy The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.
