Summary You will serve as a AEROSPACE/MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the AIR SYSTEMS GROUP PROPULSION & POWER, MODELING & ANALYSIS DIVISION, ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV. Responsibilities You will provide technical expertise to develop, design and manufacture critical drive and mechanical systems related components for rotary and fixed wing aircraft systems. You will utilize job-related technical expertise to support the resolution of drive and mechanical systems related issues as they arise on assigned aircraft platforms. You will manage a multi-discipline team to provide coordination, direction and recommendations to accomplish program requirements. You will function as a liaison with internal and external contacts to ensure aviation program needs are addressed and goals are met. You will coordinate with the drive and mechanical systems senior scientist to identify emerging drive and mechanical systems technology for further development and implementation on rotary and fixed wing platforms. You will work with branch and division leadership to identify and develop the relevant technical skills of junior drive and mechanical systems employees. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provide specialized technical expertise and serve as technical liaison across NAVAIR competencies and aviation program offices for aircraft drive systems and related components and the interface of these systems with the air platforms; 2) Establish, support and manage design, development and qualification requirements as part of drive systems component engineering change and new start development programs; 3) Act as team lead during root cause corrective action events to resolve drive systems related component issues; 4) Participate in the development of drive system related policy, specification requirements, proposal evaluations and vendor selections; 5) Represent NAVAIR at technical, governmental, inter-governmental and industrial organizations and make statements of policy for the NAVY as appropriate; 6) Act as a technical consultant to all engineers and program managers in the Propulsion & Power Engineering Department and NAWCAD and to contractors concerning all matters related to developmental and currently fielded Propulsion and Power Drive systems; Assist in the technical and professional development of junior drive and mechanical systems engineers.
