Austin Commercial has an outstanding opportunity for a Employee Engagement Specialist to support our Phoenix, Arizona division and employee lifecycle initiatives across Austin Commercial. This role owns key employee experiences, including Phoenix onboarding, 60-day check-ins, engagement interviews, voluntary exit interviews, and workforce insights.
Successful candidates will combine warm, employee-focused service with strong process discipline, structured interviewing, analytical thinking, and sound judgment. The Employee Engagement Specialist will create consistent lifecycle experiences, listen objectively, protect confidentiality, identify trends, and partner with the people department and leadership to strengthen engagement and retention.

Responsibilities:
Owns the local Phoenix onboarding experience, coordinating readiness, communications, site-logistics, orientation logistics, documentation, and follow-up
Completes I-9 activity accurately and within required timelines, maintains audit-ready documentation, resolves routine gaps, and escalates exceptions or compliance concerns
Schedules and conducts structured 60-day check-ins for Phoenix and designated Austin Commercial new hires using approved questions and consistent documentation
Conducts voluntary exit interviews across assigned locations and engagement interviews as requested, creating a respectful environment and capturing objective feedback
Develops and implements employee engagement and experience initiatives, including annual surveys, internal forums such as lunch-and-learns, and community activities
Listens for themes related to onboarding, culture, manager support, training, benefits awareness, belonging, and retention; closes the loop on appropriate follow-up items
Serves as an approachable contact for employee-owner questions about culture, employee experience, and available benefits resources
Promotes awareness of ESOP, 401(k), and other benefit offerings and directs plan-specific, eligibility, payroll, or advisory questions to the appropriate specialist
Maintains structured lifecycle interview data, audits completeness, updates dashboards, and analyzes themes, sentiment, completion rates, recurring issues, and location trends
Provides concise analyses and practical recommendations to help management develop action plans that maintain or improve employee engagement and experience, while distinguishing individual concerns from aggregate patterns and preserving confidentiality
Partners closely with the HR Generalist, Leadership & Culture team, managers, and leaders to coordinate support and follow-through
Recognizes and promptly escalates potential compliance, safety, retaliation, harassment, discrimination, or employee-relations concerns without independently investigating
Tracks commitments, assigns clear owners, and follows through to ensure employee questions and experience concerns are addressed appropriately
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Have 2-5 years of experience in human resources, employee engagement, onboarding, employee relations support, benefits communications, or a related people-focused role
Demonstrated ability to create welcoming employee experiences and build trust through responsive, reliable connections with staff and leadership
Experience conducting structured interviews, asking appropriate follow-up questions, listening neutrally, and documenting feedback objectively
Ability to organize qualitative and quantitative information, identify themes and sentiment shifts, and communicate concise insights
Working knowledge of confidentiality expectations, I-9 requirements, and appropriate escalation of sensitive employee concerns
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to employees, managers, HR partners, and leaders
Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information and distinguishing fact from interpretation
Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative, improve processes, and balance a human-centered approach with data discipline
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field; relevant work experience may substitute
Experience using an HRIS, case-management system, survey platform, or dashboard/reporting tool is preferred
Experience supporting multi-location employees, an employee-owned organization, benefits communications, or structured employee listening programs is preferred
Ability to work onsite in Phoenix, Arizona, and provide lifecycle support across Phoenix and Austin Commercial as assigned
Occasional day and overnight travel may be required for meetings, onboarding support, training, or employee engagement activities
