Job Title: Electrical Mechanic & Junior Mechanic
Job Description
This role focuses on commercial electrical rough-in work, including reading and interpreting rough-in prints, installing conduit and cable systems, wiring and troubleshooting panels, and performing switchgear terminations. You will work on local projects in New York City, contributing to high-quality electrical installations while maintaining safety standards and demonstrating strong technical ability and independence on the job.
Responsibilities
Perform commercial electrical rough-in work, including layout and installation based on rough-in prints.
Read and interpret electrical rough-in drawings and prints to execute installations accurately.
Install various @types of conduit, including overhead conduit, and perform precise conduit bending using appropriate tools and techniques.
Install and work with switchgear, including performing terminations and associated wiring.
Run BX and MC cable and perform roughing for electrical systems in commercial environments.
Troubleshoot electrical systems and wiring issues, including diagnosing problems in panels and circuits.
Wire electrical panels, including organizing, terminating, and labeling conductors as required.
Build and install Kindorf racks and supports for electrical conduit and cable runs.
Perform service work, including pulling service wire and making appropriate terminations.
Pull MC and BX cable and ensure proper routing, support, and protection of all conductors.
Install outlets, switches, devices, boxes, and panels according to electrical codes and project specifications.
Splice cable and complete terminations for outlets, switches, panels, and other devices.
Install and terminate outlets, switches, and electrical devices, ensuring clean, code-compliant work.
Perform three-way switch wiring and other multi-point switching configurations accurately and safely.
Maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and certifications (including SST and OSHA 30) on site at all times.
Sign in and out daily at the job site according to required procedures and maintain accurate time records.
Work efficiently and independently, demonstrating strong technical ability, a positive attitude, and consistent productivity.
Collaborate with forepersons and team members, following direction while contributing to a safe and organized work site.
Adhere to all safety regulations and site-specific rules, including compliance with applicable certifications and evaluations.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 5+ years of commercial electrical experience for Jr Mechanic; 10+ years for Mechanic
Strong proficiency in commercial electrical rough-in work.
Ability to read and interpret rough-in prints and electrical drawings.
Demonstrated skill in installing and bending conduit, including overhead conduit and precise pipe bending.
Experience working with switchgear, including terminations and associated wiring.
Proficiency in running and installing BX and MC cable for commercial projects.
Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical systems, panels, and circuits.
Experience wiring electrical panels, including organizing and terminating conductors.
Ability to build and install Kindorf racks and supports for conduit and cable systems.
Experience with service work, including pulling and terminating service wire.
Skill in installing outlets, switches, devices, boxes, and panels in commercial settings.
Proficiency in splicing cable and completing terminations for various devices and panels.
Competence in three-way switch wiring and other multi-point switching configurations.
SST 10-hour certification.
OSHA 30 certification.
Lift certification for operating applicable lifting equipment.
Ability to work independently while maintaining speed, accuracy, and a professional attitude.
Strong focus on safety and compliance with site requirements and regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with table bending and other specialized conduit bending techniques.
Comfort working with overhead conduit installations and elevated work areas.
Ability to perform detailed panel wiring and terminations with a high level of craftsmanship.
Strong organizational skills for managing tools, materials, and documentation on site.
Effective communication skills for coordinating with forepersons and team members.
Demonstrated reliability in following site procedures, including sign-in and sign-out protocols.
Confidence in working independently while meeting project timelines and quality standards.

Work Environment
Work is performed on commercial construction and electrical project sites located within New York City. Standard project start times are at 7:00 a.m., and you must sign in and out each day with the foreperson according to site procedures. The environment is hands-on and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on technical ability in pipe work, panel wiring, and three-way switch wiring. You will be evaluated on your attitude, speed in accomplishing tasks, and confidence in working independently. You must have all required PPE, tools, SST 10-hour, and OSHA 30 certifications with you at all times on site. Some projects may require compliance with additional site-specific testing or documentation. Work typically involves using lifts, conduit bending equipment, hand and power tools, and working on racks, overhead conduit, and panel installations in active construction settings.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
