Summary About the Position: This is a military technician position with the Army Reserve Aviation Command, Aviation Support Facility (ASF) Knox East located at Fort Knox, Kentucky. To learn more about minimum qualifications to join the Army Reserve, visit http://www.goarmy.com/reserve/jobs.html Responsibilities Repair/replace rotary wing aircraft engines and assemblies Conduct inspections to prevent equipment failure Complete adjustments to installed components Perform ground operational checks Perform functional tests Inspect aircraft engines Analyze test results Investigate malfunctioning equipment Review technical publications Operate test equipment Perform maintenance Interpret manuals to complete work orders Employ FAA regulations Translate inspection reports Update inspection schedule Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Aircraft Engine Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: maintaining and repairing rotary wing aircraft engines to include portions of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, and a variety of less complex maintenance functions. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Moderately heavy physical effort is required in the frequent use of tiring work positions. Frequently lifts objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects up to 75 pounds, with assistance through the use of mechanical devices. Frequent stooping, bending, and reaching, with prolonged periods of standing. May require climbing steps and ladders and standing or inclined surfaces. Working Conditions: Works inside on concrete floors which are sometimes damp and drafty. During outside on-site evaluation or repairs, is exposed to strong winds, wide temperature variations, and inclement weather. Subject to cuts, abrasions, falls, burns, and broken bones. The inherent danger of unstable working positions and rotor blades is always present. Noise hazards require audiometric evaluation. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. New Army Reserve Military Technicians may be authorized moving expenses to their first official duty station. To be eligible to receive moving expenses, you must be a newly appointed Federal civilian employee or have a minimum of a 3-day break in service from previous Federal civilian employment. Recruitment, retention, and/or relocation incentive, advance in-hire rates, advanced leave accrual, and creditable service for leave accrual may be authorized when determined to be in the best interest of the government.
