Job Description
This role supports the mechanical installation of a large-scale solar farm across three core crews: Pile Install, Racking Install, and Module Install. Mechanical Installers work outdoors in a fast-paced construction environment, contributing to the safe and accurate installation of piles, racking systems, and photovoltaic (PV) modules over a large project site. The position involves frequent lifting, extensive walking, and regular use of power and hand tools to help build a high-quality solar energy facility.
Responsibilities
Assist with unloading trucks carrying piles, racking components, and PV modules, ensuring materials are safely moved to designated laydown areas.
Support pile installation crews by retrieving piles from the laydown yard, helping lay out pile locations, and working with equipment operators to drive piles into GPS-marked positions.
Use tape measures to verify pile heights and ensure piles are driven to correct elevations according to project specifications.
Carry piles from lifts to installation locations, repeatedly lifting at least 25 pounds, and walk extensively across a 3,000-acre site to install piles throughout the solar farm.
Work with racking crew operators to unload trucks using mechanical or racking equipment and transport racking materials from the laydown yard to work locations.
Gather nuts, bolts, and other hardware required for racking installation and assist in reading blueprints or follow foreman guidance to learn proper installation procedures.
Use power drills and hand tools to torque and secure racking systems, measure distances between racks, and confirm proper alignment and spacing.
Perform spot quality control checks to ensure racking systems are installed correctly and meet project standards, while working efficiently to achieve daily production goals.
Assist module install teams by unloading PV modules from trucks, placing them in the laydown yard, and helping move modules to installation workstations.
Lift modules weighing approximately 25-30 pounds repeatedly at short intervals as they are installed on racking systems.
Place bolts, screws, and other fasteners into appropriate locations to secure modules, and use power drills and hand tools to fully install PV modules at a fast pace aligned with production schedules.
Support general construction activities associated with task codes including general requirements, temporary dust control, construction surveying, cleaning and waste management, site maintenance, material receipt, and commissioning.
Contribute to work related to racking and PV systems, including rough and final PV racking, PV modules, steel piles, earthwork, site clearing, and various AC and DC underground electrical feeder and trenching activities as directed.
Follow site safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area, including proper handling and storage of materials and tools.
Work collaboratively with operators, foremen, and other crew members to maintain clear communication, meet daily production targets, and support overall project timelines.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of construction experience in a non-residential or similar environment.
At least 1 year of experience working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
Experience with unloading trucks, staging materials, and performing basic inventory or material tracking tasks.
Ability to repeatedly lift at least 25 pounds throughout the workday, including lifting 25-30 pound PV modules at frequent intervals.
At least 1 year of experience using power tools and hand tools safely and effectively on construction or mechanical installation projects.
Ability to read or learn to interpret basic blueprints and follow detailed installation instructions under guidance.
Comfort walking long distances over uneven terrain across a large project site for the majority of the workday.
Capacity to work at a fast pace and consistently meet daily production goals while maintaining quality standards.
Strong attention to detail when measuring, aligning, and securing piles, racking, and modules to ensure accurate installation.
Reliability in following safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment for self and team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in general labor, construction, or solar installation environments.
Experience in mechanical installation work such as racking, module installation, or cable pulling.
Familiarity with basic electrical-related tasks in solar projects, such as DC string wiring, combiner box work, and AC/DC underground electrical feeders, under supervision.
Experience with site clearing, earthwork, steel pile installation, and site maintenance activities.
Comfort working under pressure in environments with daily production goals and tight timelines.
Ability to follow commissioning and quality control procedures to support final project readiness.
Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with operators, foremen, and crew members.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
