Description We are looking for an experienced Tax Accountant to join a public accounting firm serving closely held businesses, individual taxpayers, and small business clients in Connecticut. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented tax specialist who enjoys managing diverse tax engagements, building trusted client relationships, and contributing to a growing practice. The role offers strong long-term potential for advancement, including a path for those interested in expanding their responsibilities over time.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax filings for individuals, corporations, and other business entities with a high degree of accuracy.

Manage tax engagements for clients in industries such as construction and other privately held businesses, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.

Research tax issues and apply current regulations to support compliance, planning opportunities, and accurate reporting.

Handle sales and use tax matters, including return preparation, account analysis, and resolution of filing questions.

Communicate directly with clients to gather financial information, clarify tax positions, and provide practical guidance throughout the filing process.

Coordinate workload during peak tax periods, meeting deadlines efficiently while maintaining quality standards.

Support ongoing client service needs by identifying tax-saving opportunities and addressing notices or follow-up items as they arise. Requirements - At least 5 years of hands-on tax experience in public accounting or a similar services environment.

Demonstrated background preparing and reviewing individual and corporate tax returns.

Experience with sales and use tax compliance and related reporting requirements.

Familiarity with tax preparation processes for privately held companies, preferably including construction-related clients.

Strong understanding of federal and state tax rules, with the ability to interpret and apply guidance accurately.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple engagements and deadlines.

Ability to work independently, communicate effectively with clients, and contribute to a collaborative team.
