Job Title: Electrical EngineerJob Description
We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to join a 24/7 float glass manufacturing facility. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting, and enhancing automated systems. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to support plant operations, improve equipment reliability, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and performance.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, PLC, and network issues on plant equipment to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
Support the installation and upgrade of industrial equipment, including scoping, electrical and control design, procurement, and startup commissioning.
Develop, modify, and maintain PLC programs to support automated processes and ensure stable, efficient operation.
Create, update, and maintain HMI applications to improve operator interfaces, process visibility, and control.
Provide technical support for motors, drives, power distribution, and automation systems across the facility.
Diagnose and correct issues in automated packaging, robotics, and other automation systems to maintain consistent production.
Train maintenance and operations teams on electrical systems, PLCs, HMIs, and automation equipment to improve uptime and performance.
Interpret and use electrical schematics and drawings to support troubleshooting, design changes, and equipment upgrades.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and reliability within the manufacturing environment.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process bottlenecks and implement automation or control system enhancements.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
2-5 years of industrial or manufacturing experience in an electrical engineering or controls role.
Hands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting in a production environment.
Familiarity with HMIs, motors, drives, and electrical systems used in industrial automation.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex electrical and control issues.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams.
Experience working with automated systems and industrial automation equipment.
Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles applied to manufacturing processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley systems, including Studio 5000 for developing and maintaining PLC programs.
Hands-on experience with CompactLogix and MicroLogix PLCs in industrial applications.
Experience using FactoryTalk View for HMI development and modification.
Familiarity with PowerFlex Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and their configuration and troubleshooting.
Experience with robotics or automated systems, particularly in packaging or material handling.
Knowledge of industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP or similar communication protocols.
Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design tools for electrical and control system design.
Interest in working in a large, growing organization with significant opportunities for professional development.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment with complex automation.
Work Environment
This role is based in a 24/7 float glass manufacturing facility that operates continuous production lines and automated systems. You will work in a plant environment that includes heavy industrial equipment, power distribution systems, automated packaging lines, and robotics. The position involves frequent interaction on the production floor, collaboration with maintenance and production teams, and hands-on work with PLCs, HMIs, motors, drives, and industrial networks. You will use modern engineering tools such as Rockwell Automation platforms, FactoryTalk View, and design software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spring Hill, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
