Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering design and production for assigned building projects, taking day-to-day responsibility for mechanical systems from concept through construction documents.
Prepare mechanical and plumbing design and construction documents in REVIT MEP in accordance with applicable standards, internal quality control requirements, and A/E industry BIM standards.
Develop and refine design parameters consistent with project scope, schedule, and budget in collaboration with project managers and the director of mechanical engineering services.
Produce comprehensive mechanical design studies, written design narratives, calculations, and analyses for HVAC systems, process cooling and heating, plumbing, fire protection, piping, and mechanical utilities.
Research building materials and mechanical systems and select appropriate components for incorporation into building designs, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with codes.
Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, fire protection, telecom, and interior design disciplines, ensuring fully integrated and conflict-free building systems.
Prepare design documents for all phases of design, including concept, schematic design, design development, and construction documents, and ensure conformance with internal standards.
Develop outline and final construction document specifications for mechanical and plumbing systems and coordinate these specifications with other disciplines' project specifications.
Respond to estimated budget hour requests from division managers and project managers and assist in the development of project schedules and budgets for mechanical engineering work.
Coordinate with project managers on schedule, construction cost considerations, and scope of work for each project, providing technical and project management support as needed.
Perform conceptual planning and design to confirm that project requirements align with the defined scope, schedule, and budget, and adjust design strategies as necessary.
Use HVAC analysis software, such as Carrier HAP or NIBS Trace 700, to model and analyze mechanical system performance and support design decisions that meet project criteria.
