The Senior MEP Construction Manager leads the planning, coordination, installation, testing, commissioning, and closeout of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on complex commercial, industrial, healthcare, mission critical, multifamily, and large-scale construction projects. This role oversees MEP trade partners and collaborates closely with owners, architects, engineers, superintendents, project managers, safety teams, and quality teams to ensure all MEP scopes are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, project specifications, and company standards. The position offers the opportunity to take full ownership of projects from preconstruction through turnover and warranty support, while influencing project success through technical expertise, leadership, scheduling, budgeting, and problem-solving in a highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
Lead all MEP construction activities from preconstruction and coordination through installation, commissioning, turnover, and warranty support on complex building systems projects.
Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, coordination models, and project requirements for constructability, scope alignment, and field readiness.
Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, low-voltage, and related building systems with architectural, structural, civil, and specialty scopes to ensure seamless integration.
Manage MEP trade partners, vendors, and suppliers to align manpower, materials, equipment, documentation, and field execution with project requirements and milestones.
Develop and maintain detailed MEP schedules, procurement logs, look-ahead plans, constraints logs, and milestone tracking tools in partnership with project leadership.
Lead regular MEP coordination meetings, document decisions, assign action items, and drive timely resolution of design, field, procurement, and commissioning issues.
Monitor MEP budgets, change orders, cost impacts, labor productivity, material delivery, and scope gaps to support accurate forecasting and strong project financial performance.
Ensure strict compliance with safety requirements, quality standards, building codes, permit requirements, inspection criteria, utility requirements, and expectations of authorities having jurisdiction.
Oversee inspections, testing, equipment startup, commissioning, functional performance testing, utility tie-ins, shutdowns, and turnover activities to achieve successful system operation.
Identify project risks, coordination conflicts, schedule constraints, and quality concerns early, and develop corrective actions that reduce rework and protect project delivery.
Partner with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and field leadership to maintain effective sequencing, site logistics, resource planning, and accountability for key milestones.
Support project closeout by coordinating as-built documentation, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, training requirements, warranty documentation, final inspections, and owner acceptance.
Work directly with owners, facility managers, engineers, vendors, and trade partners to solve real-world building challenges in active, occupied facilities and data centers.
Manage and mentor a team of project managers, project engineers, and field personnel, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure high-performance execution.
Influence project success through strong technical expertise, proactive leadership, clear communication, effective scheduling, budgeting, and hands-on problem-solving.
Essential Skills
10+ years of progressive construction management experience, including significant responsibility managing MEP scopes on commercial, industrial, healthcare, mission critical, multifamily, or large-scale construction projects.
5+ years of leadership experience coordinating MEP trade partners, field teams, project engineers, subcontractors, vendors, or technical construction personnel.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting, controls, fire protection, low-voltage systems, utility coordination, building automation, and commissioning processes.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, change documents, submittals, RFIs, and coordination models.
Experience managing MEP budgets, procurement planning, change orders, cost impacts, schedule recovery, field productivity, and project reporting.
Proficiency with construction technology platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, BIM coordination tools, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar systems.
Solid project management and construction management skills, with the ability to plan, organize, and execute complex MEP scopes.
Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and cross-functional coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on reducing rework and protecting project schedules and budgets.
Commitment to safety, quality control, risk management, and adherence to applicable codes and standards.
Background in MEP construction with practical experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related building systems.
Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments and to oversee work in active, occupied facilities and data centers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Systems Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
OSHA 30 certification is preferred, along with a strong dedication to safety leadership, quality control, and risk management.
Experience with commercial construction, industrial construction, data centers, mission critical facilities, and healthcare environments.
Familiarity with industrial environments and utility coordination requirements.
Experience with BIM coordination tools to support clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and communication.
Ability to manage and mentor project managers, project engineers, and field teams in a collaborative setting.
Strong documentation skills for capturing meeting outcomes, decisions, action items, and project changes.
Ability to build and maintain strong client and trade partner relationships, supporting long-term project and career success.
Work Environment
This role is based in Scottsdale, AZ and operates primarily in a hybrid office and field setting, with approximately 75% of time spent in the office and 25% in the field. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility on start and end times to accommodate individual and project needs. The position involves regular visits to active construction sites, occupied facilities, and data centers, overseeing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and low-voltage systems installation and commissioning. The work environment is relaxed and collaborative, with a family-owned culture and a smaller services team that emphasizes autonomy, trust, and minimal micromanagement. Team members enjoy a friendly atmosphere that may include occasional barbecues and informal gatherings. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and use of appropriate personal protective equipment when in the field, while office work is conducted in a professional setting using modern construction technology platforms and standard office tools.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $135000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
