Job Summary
The Accounting Manager - Nuclear Development, will support all facets of the accounting functions relevant to the strategic priorities of AEP's Nuclear Development organization. This position is expected to play a critical role in the development, deployment, and ongoing application of relevant accounting policies and procedures to support the growth initiatives of AEP's Nuclear Development organization in a manner that is compliant and consistent with AEP's overall accounting policies. To that end, this position will regularly collaborate with AEP's CAO organization and will require working cross-functionally with multiple business unit management teams as well as AEP's external auditor. This position will also support internal management and major project reporting functionality to inform strategic decision-making of the AEP Nuclear Development leadership team.
Job Description
What You'll Do:
Create and maintain accounting policies and procedures, providing implementation training and support to Nuclear Development organization personnel.
Provide perspectives to support, and assist with, establishing an effective and efficient accounting function with openness, transparency, and accountability that continuously improves its processes and controls.
Regarding major projects and strategic partnerships, coordinate and work closely with project managers and cost analysts for timely, complete, and accurate execution of applicable contractual rights and obligations such as project cost tracking, reimbursement, and reporting.
Provide accounting and financial advice and analytical support in connection with strategic priorities, commercial pursuits, and other business ventures.
Support timely and accurate completion of the monthly general ledger closing process, as needed.
Assist with research, analysis, communication, and documentation of ad hoc technical accounting matters relevant to significant transactions, strategic pursuits, and other business endeavors of the Nuclear Development organization. Also help drive consensus with external auditors on such matters.
Maintain and operate effective systems, controls, and policies to ensure the integrity of financial data and processes in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, U.S. GAAP requirements, and related AEP policies.
Provide financial reporting support via: (1) the management of monthly and quarterly internal financial reporting processes, (2) preparation of timely and accurate analysis of financial results, budget performance, and financial trends for Nuclear Development, and (3) prepare, guide, or review disclosures related to Nuclear Development within AEP's SEC reports and filings.
Establish and maintain effective business relations with external auditors, contractors, and strategic partners. Identify areas of accounting and financial reporting risk. Develop and implement mitigating or preventive controls and procedures to address such risk.
What We're Looking For:
Accounting Manager (SG9: $116,255 - $149,664)
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business with an concentration in Accounting.
Experience: Minimum five (5) years accounting experience working in an accounting role either at a public company or large accounting firm.
Accounting Sr. Manager ( SG10: $136,342 - $177,503)
Education: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business with a concentration in Accounting nor related field.
Experience: Six (6) years accounting experience working in an accounting role either at a public company or large accounting firm.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA certification preferred.
Exposure to and familiarity with the utility industry Strong competency in written and verbal communication.
Strong competency in written and verbal communication, including technical accounting writing.
Detail-oriented with an ability to employ a logical approach to accomplish objectives and solve issues.
Strong ability and comfort with concurrently supporting multiple projects, prioritization, and adaptation to changing circumstances and requirements.
Ability to work as part of a dynamic team environment, possessing excellent time management and organization skills.
Ability to voice and defend options while guiding teams toward successful, collaborative implementation of changes initiatives.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft Teams, and similar collaborative technology.?
