About Miami Correctional Facility :
Miami Correctional Facility is a level-four high-medium-security facility located in Bunker Hill, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,100 incarcerated adult males. The facility sits on former Grissom Air Force Base property and also includes a level-one facility with capacity for more than 200 incarcerated adult males. Miami Correctional Facility offers extensive educational and vocational programming, including a Braille translation program and a sewing shop serving community partners. Incarcerated individuals gain hands-on skills that build employability for re-entry and the programs help individuals develop strong work habits and meaningful experience. Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Role Overview:
As a Correctional Chaplain, you will be responsible for all incarcerated individual's religious and spiritual needs. In addition, you will develop, implement, maintain, and participate in a wide variety of religious programs. As with every job within the Department of Correction, you will also be responsible for the safety and security of the facility.
Salary:

Eligible non-custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $20 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.
A Day in the Life:
?The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Oversee daily inspections of the units.
Track, properly vet, and report all incidents to the Operations Center.
Direct assigned staff in maintaining the security and safety of offenders, buildings, and grounds.
Manage staff including training, time management, time off approvals, specific shift assignments, corrective action and performance evaluations.
Assist in identifying offender treatment needs and support programs for treatment and rehabilitation which may include encouraging offenders to accept professional assistance and treatment from staff as needed.
Counsel offenders in an informal and unofficial capacity.
Oversee the records on shift reports, policy and procedure updates and violations of policies and procedures.
Direct staff regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must test negative on all drug screenings.
Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices utilized in a correctional environment.
Ability to supervise and achieve desired results from offenders and staff.
Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including giving clear directions.
Ability to collaborate with other departmental requests regarding custody needs.
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
Complete all mandatory training including?the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 4+ years of experience in a correctional institution, law enforcement or military law enforcement, and two (2) years of experience as a correctional supervisor or supervisory training in a related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
