The Mechanical Project / Applications Engineer plays a key role in the engineering, design, and support of packaged equipment solutions across multiple markets. Typical systems include pump stations, reverse osmosis and water treatment equipment, control panels, power distribution equipment, and related automated industrial equipment. This position combines hands-on engineering with customer-facing responsibilities, supporting the sales team by developing equipment concepts, sizing and selecting components, preparing pricing and quotations, and automating processes and spreadsheets. Responsibilities
Collaborate with the sales team and customers to understand project requirements and application needs.
Review specifications and project scope documents throughout the bidding process to ensure accurate understanding of requirements.
Develop preliminary engineering concepts and solutions for packaged equipment, including pump systems and water treatment equipment.
Evaluate technical feasibility and provide input on design and performance parameters for proposed systems.
Prepare accurate and competitive pricing proposals and quotations based on engineering concepts and customer requirements.
Work with vendors to select appropriate components, obtain pricing, and confirm application suitability.
Maintain pricing documentation and stay current on relevant cost factors affecting proposals.
Serve as a primary point of contact for customers at the beginning of the project lifecycle, ensuring clear and timely communication.
Address customer inquiries and technical concerns, providing responsive and professional support.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support long-term satisfaction and repeat business.
Partner closely with the sales team to identify opportunities, tailor technical proposals, and assist in closing deals.
Provide technical support during sales presentations and customer meetings, explaining engineering concepts and system designs.
Stay up to date on industry trends, standards, and best practices related to packaged equipment and pump systems.
Continuously expand technical knowledge of product offerings, including pumps, piping, controls, VFDs, valves, and associated systems.
Provide technical guidance to internal teams and customers on engineering concepts, equipment selection, and system performance.
Offer functional guidance to internal engineering teams and applicable external stakeholders to support successful project execution.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality control, and project management to ensure project success and adherence to specifications.
Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to coordinate the handoff of projects to the project management team.
Document and maintain accurate records of customer interactions, project details, engineering concepts, and pricing assumptions.
Prepare reports, project summaries, and technical documentation as needed to support internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure that engineered solutions comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal quality requirements.
Work with quality control and project management teams to address any quality-related issues that arise.
Identify and resolve technical challenges and issues during the early stages of the project lifecycle.
Implement effective engineering solutions to support project success and enhance customer satisfaction.
Lay out initial equipment designs, including equipment sizing and selection, using engineering calculations and pump curves where applicable.
Use Microsoft Excel to develop and automate processes and spreadsheets that support pricing, design, and proposal activities.
Support application engineering and sales engineering activities related to packaged pump systems and automated equipment.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, or in Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
At least six months of experience in a similar engineering role working with pumps, piping, VFDs, and valves
Strong understanding of engineering concepts and calculations, particularly related to fluid mechanics and piping systems.
Proficiency in engineering software and design tools used for equipment sizing, selection, and system layout.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Ability to use Microsoft Excel for data analysis, calculations, and process automation.
Experience working with pumps, piping, controls, VFDs, and valves in an engineering or design @context.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and internal teams.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail when reviewing specifications, designing systems, and preparing proposals.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations applicable to packaged equipment and pump systems.
Ability to support application engineering and sales engineering activities for packaged pump systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience or coursework in engineering or design of packaged pump systems is a plus.
Experience using pump curves for equipment sizing and system design is a plus.
Experience working within a manufacturer of automated industrial equipment is highly desirable.
Exposure to automated equipment manufacturing processes is a strong advantage.
Experience programming in Visual Basic and automating processes or spreadsheets is a plus.
Background in application engineering, sales engineering, or systems engineering is beneficial.
Strong communication and people skills to build relationships with clients and collaborate with internal groups.
Familiarity with fluid mechanics and piping system design beyond academic fundamentals is an asset.
Ability to work comfortably at the intersection of engineering, sales, and customer support.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
