Staff Accountant (Remote, Greater NYC Area)

Location: Remote (Must reside in the Greater New York City Tri-State Area)

Schedule: Remote with onsite meetings in Manhattan approximately twice per month

Compensation: $34 to $37 per hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and compliance activities. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working independently, improving processes, and contributing to a fast-paced, remote-first organization.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.

Monitor cash balances and support cash flow forecasting.

Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable aging reports.

Process payroll-related accounting entries and reconcile payroll activity.

Support vendor payments, wire transfers, and banking activities.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

Prepare monthly financial reports, including P&L and balance sheet reconciliations.

Analyze variances and assist with budget-to-actual reporting.

Reconcile bank accounts and payment platforms.

Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records.

Assist with revenue and expense analysis.

Compliance & Audit Support

Support annual audits and preparation of financial documentation.

Assist with 1099 processing, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.

Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company controls.

Process Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and increase efficiency.

Utilize technology, automation tools, and advanced Excel techniques to streamline processes.

Partner with internal stakeholders to support operational and financial objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

2+ years of accounting experience with involvement in the monthly close process.

Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.

Experience with QuickBooks Online required.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial analysis.

Strong reconciliation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting environments.

Familiarity with payroll processing and payment platforms.

Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and audit support.

Experience leveraging AI or automation tools to improve business processes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
