Job Summary:
A Combination Pipe Welder in a refinery setting is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems, including those in excavations and underground, as well as welding structural steel. This role involves welding, cutting, and assembling pipes and structural components to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the refinery.
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Pipe Combination Welder to join our refinery maintenance and construction team. The successful candidate will perform high-quality welding, fabrication, repair, and installation of piping systems in an operating refinery environment. This position requires the ability to weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping while maintaining the highest standards of safety, workmanship, and productivity.
Essential Responsibilities
Perform SMAW, GTAW (TIG), FCAW, and/or GMAW welding processes as required.
Weld pipe in various positions, including 6G, in accordance with approved welding procedures.
Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, and weld procedures.
Fabricate, fit, and weld piping systems for maintenance, repair, turnaround, and capital projects.
Complete welds that meet refinery, client, ASME, and applicable code requirements.
Perform grinding, beveling, fit-up verification, and weld preparation activities.
Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards and specifications are met.
Work closely with pipefitters, supervisors, inspectors, and operations personnel.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, permit reviews, and refinery-specific training.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum 3 years of industrial pipe welding experience.
Ability to pass a refinery pipe combination welder qualification test.
Experience welding carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems.
Ability to read blueprints, isometrics, and welding symbols.
Knowledge of refinery safety requirements and safe work practices.
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
Preferred
Previous refinery, petrochemical, chemical plant, or industrial maintenance experience.
Current NCCER certification.
TWIC Card.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience with turnaround and outage work.
Safety Requirements
Strict adherence to all refinery safety rules and procedures.
Must wear required PPE, including FR clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
Participate in site-specific safety orientation and ongoing training.
