Job Description
This Medical Assistant position supports a busy OB/GYN and women's health practice by providing high-quality clinical and administrative support to physicians and patients. The role focuses on rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, assisting with exams and procedures, and managing patient communications, including scheduling and follow-up calls. The Medical Assistant will contribute to a modern, patient-centered environment that uses electronic medical records to deliver coordinated and compassionate care.
Responsibilities
Assist physicians with all patient interactions, including exams, procedures, and follow-up care.
Room patients efficiently by verifying patient identity, updating medical history, and preparing them for the provider.
Obtain and document vital signs accurately, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.
Call patients to explain test and lab results in a clear and professional manner, following provider instructions.
Contact pharmacies to address patient medication questions, refill requests, and clarifications on prescriptions.
Support a busy medical office by answering phones, managing patient inquiries, and providing courteous customer service.
Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits in a timely and organized manner.
Use electronic medical records to document patient encounters, update charts, and ensure accurate information for coordinated care.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to support high-volume OB/GYN and women's health services.
Maintain a professional, patient-facing appearance and demeanor while representing the practice.
Follow all office protocols to support efficient patient flow and a positive experience in a high-volume environment.
Participate in rotational late-night coverage approximately once per week, working until around 6:00 p.m.
Essential Skills
2-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office setting.
Hands-on Medical Assistant with direct patient care responsibilities.
Experience working in a medical office environment, including front and back office support.
Ability and willingness to obtain CMA or RMA certification within 6 months if not already certified.
Proficiency in rooming patients and obtaining accurate vital signs.
Experience with medical office call handling, including speaking with patients and coordinating with pharmacies.
Ability to schedule appointments and manage patient flow in a busy practice.
Comfort using electronic medical records to document and access patient information.
Strong communication skills to clearly explain test and lab results to patients.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Reliability to work a strict 8:00 a.m. start time and maintain a consistent 40-hour workweek.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in women's health, OB/GYN, or related specialty is a strong plus.
Familiarity with high-volume, multi-provider medical practices.
Experience collaborating with a broad care team that may include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other advanced practice clinicians.
Comfort working with modern medical technologies and electronic systems.
Interest in professional growth and upward mobility within a large healthcare organization.
Work Environment
This role is based in a busy, high-volume OB/GYN and women's health office in West Hartford. The practice is part of a large, multi-location healthcare organization with dozens of offices across Connecticut and central Massachusetts, offering broad access to women's health services. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and highly focused on compassionate, patient-centered care. Modern technologies, including electronic medical records, support accurate documentation and coordinated care across locations. The standard schedule is 40 hours per week with a strict 8:00 a.m. start time and one late evening per week on a rotating basis, typically working until around 6:00 p.m. The dress code requires professional clinical attire, including scrubs and closed-toe shoes, with an emphasis on a polished, patient-facing appearance. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Hartford, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
