Director of Finance
Our client, a growing professional services organization in the Franklin, TN area, is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join its executive leadership team. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys partnering with senior leadership, driving business performance, and helping organizations scale through periods of growth and expansion.
The Director of Finance will serve as a trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership while overseeing all financial, accounting, administrative, risk management, and insurance-related functions. The ideal candidate will bring experience within a project-based professional services environment and possess a strong blend of strategic thinking and hands-on financial leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team.
Partner with ownership and senior leadership on strategic planning, business performance, and growth initiatives.
Provide financial insights and recommendations regarding profitability, staffing, investments, and operational improvements.
Develop financial reporting tools and performance metrics that drive accountability across the organization.
Strategic Planning & Growth
Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
Develop long-range financial plans and scenario analyses.
Support office expansion, growth initiatives, and business development strategies.
Assist leadership with succession planning, organizational development, and long-term financial planning.
Financial Management
Oversee monthly financial reporting and analysis.
Manage cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance.
Maintain relationships with banking partners, lenders, insurance providers, and external advisors.
Coordinate annual audits and tax engagements.
Oversee payroll administration and benefits-related financial processes.
Project Financial Management
Lead project accounting and financial performance initiatives.
Develop and manage executive dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Monitor utilization, revenue performance, profitability, backlog, and project financial health.
Partner with department leaders and project managers to improve operational and financial performance.
Manage work-in-process (WIP), accounts receivable, and project-related financial risk.
Risk Management & Administration
Oversee the company's risk management and insurance programs.
Manage relationships with insurance carriers, brokers, and risk management consultants.
Review contractual risk provisions and insurance requirements in conjunction with legal counsel.
Support business continuity, compliance, and cybersecurity risk initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and develop accounting, finance, payroll, and administrative personnel.
Establish performance goals and accountability measures for team members.
Build scalable financial systems and processes that support continued growth.
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
Experience within engineering, architecture, consulting, professional services, construction services, or another project-based business environment.
Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
Experience creating and managing KPIs, executive dashboards, and financial reporting tools.
Strong understanding of project accounting and project profitability analysis.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
Proven ability to partner with executive leadership on strategic business decisions.
Preferred
CPA, CMA, or MBA.
Experience supporting organizations through periods of significant growth.
Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or ownership transition planning.
Experience with Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vantagepoint, or similar project-based ERP systems.

This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
