Description
We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the design and architecture of mechanical systems for our robotic platform. You'll own the mechanical design of enclosures, mounting systems, cable routing, sensor integration, and peripheral assemblies like our autonomous charging dock, and set the direction for how these subsystems integrate across the platform.
This is a hands-on, CAD-intensive role. You'll spend your time designing parts, building assemblies, and iterating quickly through proto@type build cycles, while also setting the mechanical interfaces and standards the broader team builds against. You'll work closely with electrical engineers on component packaging and thermal integration, with industrial designers on form factor and aesthetics, and with the broader platform team to solve mechanical problems that span subsystems.
The right person for this role is a senior mechanical designer who moves quickly in CAD, thinks in terms of systems and constraints, and is comfortable owning the physical integration of electronics, sensors, and cables into compact assemblies. You're equally at home designing a precision alignment feature for a charging interface and routing a cable harness through a tight volume, and you can drive mechanical decisions that span subsystems and teams while raising the bar for the engineers around you.
Key job responsibilities
Own the mechanical design and integration architecture of peripheral systems and accessories for the robotic platform, from concept through production
Design and maintain complex assemblies in Onshape with clean parametric architecture that supports rapid iteration
Set mechanical interface standards and design conventions that the broader platform team builds against
Solve packaging and integration problems: fitting electronics, sensors, connectors, and cables into compact, serviceable enclosures
Develop cable routing and harness packaging solutions within tight volume and serviceability constraints
Drive rapid prototyping cycles using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other methods to validate designs quickly
Collaborate with electrical engineers on component placement, thermal paths, and mechanical interfaces to PCBAs
Work with industrial designers to resolve form, fit, and manufacturability tradeoffs without compromising design intent
Perform tolerance analysis and manage fit/function across multi-part assemblies
Drive DFM and the transition to volume production with prototyping and manufacturing partners
Raise design quality across the team through design reviews, and mentor other mechanical engineers
About the team
Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces.
We believe that future won't arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We're changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products.
Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We're building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful.
At Fauna, you'll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It's an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build.
If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we're interested in hearing from you.
