As a Senior CNC Programmer, you'll play a critical role in developing, optimizing, and supporting advanced machining processes for large-scale energy components. Your expertise will directly influence manufacturing quality, efficiency, and innovation while working with some of the industry's most sophisticated CNC equipment and technologies.
This role combines hands-on programming, process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do
CNC Programming & Process Development
Generate, maintain, and optimize CNC programs using NX CAM and other programming platforms.
Develop machining processes for large-format equipment, including:
Large VTLs up to 2.5m
Large VBMs up to 2.5m
Large head-head gantry 5-axis machines
Large vertical multi-purpose turn/grind machines
Create programs involving multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM operations.
Establish machining strategies that meet quality, safety, and productivity requirements.
Program Verification & Quality Assurance
Verify and validate new CNC programs utilizing Vericut and machine simulation tools before release to the shop floor.
Implement and maintain on-machine probing strategies using Renishaw cycles for process validation and error prevention.
Develop programs in accordance with qualified machining parameters and established standards.
Shop Floor Support & Continuous Improvement
Provide daily CNC troubleshooting and programming support to machine operators and manufacturing teams.
Train operators during new machine startups, rebuilds, and process improvement initiatives.
Support tooling, fixturing, and machining-related process improvements.
Create and maintain CNC-related work instructions and manufacturing methods.
Lead process improvement projects focused on safety, quality, cost reduction, and delivery performance.
Collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
Minimum 4 years of experience with graphical-based CAM system CNC programming.
Strong CNC programming experience using Siemens NX CAM (highly preferred).
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and shop math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
Experience managing multiple priorities and projects in a manufacturing environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring several of the following:
Experience developing 5-axis CNC programs utilizing CAM systems, preferably NX CAM.
Minimum 1 year of experience with advanced machine controls, including:
Macro programming
Sub-routines
Renishaw probing routines
Variable-based programming
Closed Loop Machining (CLM)
Hands-on machinist background with the ability to set up and prove out complex first-piece programs.
Experience programming large-format machines, including 2m+ VTLs and VBMs .
Extensive experience machining nickel-based superalloys such as:
Inconel
Rene
Hastelloy
Experience within the heavy-duty gas turbine, power generation, or aerospace industries.
Experience with Vericut or equivalent CNC verification software.
Familiarity with multiple machine controls including:
Fanuc
Haas
Okuma
Siemens
Demonstrated success maintaining tight tolerances on large-scale components where thermal stability, work hardening, and deflection management are critical.
