Job Summary
The Orthopaedic Surgery-Hip and Knee Replacement service is seeking a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to provide and advance the care of our patients through dedicated, professional service as an integral member of a comprehensive team.
The Troy Medical Campus will be University of Michigan Health's first clinical presence in the Oakland County market. We are building a state-of-the-art specialty care campus in the heart of Troy where a deeply human commitment to personalized care will come together with world-class expertise, cutting-edge therapies, and a legacy of more than 175 years of transformative research to help patients and families in Oakland County and beyond find their Michigan Answers. The campus will feature two outpatient facilities with over a dozen specialty programs, including Cancer services, Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine, as well as a surgery/procedure center, comprehensive imaging services, laboratory, pharmacy, and therapy services. The campus is conveniently located near I-75, surrounded by popular shopping and dining, and features free parking, on-site cafe, with facilities committed to sustainable, environmentally responsible practices.
Responsibilities*
Job Responsibilities include:
Evaluation and treatment of new orthopaedic patients, peri-operative patients, return visits, injection visits autonomously with faculty support as needed.
Assisting surgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of Orthopaedic patients in the outpatient, and OR setting
Assist/First Assist surgeons in operating room
Triage and responsible for Primary phone call answering patient questions during evenings/weekends (split responsibility with Ortho Faculty/APPs at Troy Campus).
Providing service continuity in the outpatient clinical setting (including preoperative and postoperative care, as well as management of non-operative patient conditions)
Performing detailed medical history and conduct preoperative and postoperative patient evaluations
Collecting and assisting in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic imaging studies and laboratory tests
Performing various minor office-based procedures, injection/aspirations, application of braces, splints
Serving as a resource to administrative (administrative assistants and call center) and medical (nursing and medical assistants) staff daily and in instances of faculty absences
Make follow up telephone calls post surgery as needed
Coordinate outpatient discharge, write orders as needed
Coordination of care plans as needed, collaborate with other health care providers/clinicians to coordinate clinical care.
Providing follow up to patients and assistance in the referral to various internal and external facilities.
Participation in quality improvement activities
Participation in APP student education
Provide routine Orthopaedic services effectively and efficiently.
Required Qualifications*
Required Qualifications NP:
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
Current certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care, Adult Nurse Practitioner Primary Care or Family Nurse Practitioner will be considered.
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Current DEA required
AHA Approved BLS
Three years of Orthopaedic Surgery experience as a PA/NP
Experience first assisting Orthopaedic surgery cases
Required Qualifications PA:
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
Current DEA Required.
AHA Approved BLS
Three years of Orthopaedic Surgery experience as a PA/NP
Experience first assisting Orthopaedic surgery cases
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*
Two years of Orthopaedic Surgery experience as a PA/NP in ambulatory care Hip and Knee Replacement
Experience first assisting total hip and knee replacment surgery
Demonstrated experience in evaluation and care of preoperative and postoperative surgical patient.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve, and delegate effectively and efficiently. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team member of the Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Replacement and other Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists
Demonstrated superior attention to detail and organizational commitment.
Demonstrated leadership in a professional healthcare setting or other professional activities.
Demonstrated active participation in professional development activities.

Work Schedule

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
