Summary You will serve as a AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT 900 of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will install, modify, repair, and test air conditioning and refrigeration systems associated with equipment. You will perform work involving system components, electrical controls, and mechanical assemblies required for proper system operation. You will determine system configuration, component placement, and installation sequence in accordance with technical guidance and established specifications. You will perform preventive maintenance inspections and services to ensure continued system reliability. You will work on a variety of systems associated with shipyard facilities and vessels. You will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to determine system configuration, component placement, and repair methods. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Experience selecting proper material for each particular purpose. Experience displaying ability to use and maintain tools, instruments, and related equipment as appropriate to one or more lines of work. Experience performing using knowledge of all materials used, implementing ability to select proper material for each particular purpose. Experience interpreting blueprints, sketches, docking worksheets, and job orders to perform the duties of the AC&R.
