Position D escription
The Master's in Museum Studies program seeks an adjunct instructor to teach Museums in the Digital Age , a course exploring the impact of digital technologies on museum practice. The course examines current uses and effects of digitization, social media, and mobile technologies on audience engagement, exhibition concepts, and core operations while considering future possibilities in the digital realm. Students analyze museum case studies, hear from guest experts, and apply strategic planning concepts. The course seeks to address the evolving role of AI in museums , not as a technical subject but as a domain requiring critical engagement, ethical consideration, and institutional judgment. The instructor will deliver an existing curriculum while contributing professional expertise , examples, and perspective to enrich the student learning experience.
We seek candidates with substantial experience in museum technology practice, ideally in digital strategy or roles intersecting multiple technology domains. Candidates should be critically engaged with AI's implications for museums and be able to help students navigate multiple perspectives on emerging technologies. Comfort with strategic planning concepts is important.
The selected instructor will initially co-teach with full-time faculty to familiarize them with the program, students, and broader curriculum. Strong communication skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment are essential.
Minimum Qualifications
An advanced degree in cultural heritage management, historic preservation, landscape architecture, geography, planning, or a relevant field, with a master's degree at minimum .
At least three years of professional work experience working with heritage landscapes .
Preferred Qualifications
A terminal degree in cultural heritage management, historic preservation, landscape architecture, geography, planning, or a relevant field .
1-3 years of graduate - level teaching experience
Five years of professional experience working with heritage landscapes.
Strong interest in advising graduate students interested in a career in the heritage sector .
Salary: $7,210

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

Vaccine Requirements

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those candidates who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
