Summary About the Position: As an accountant for the Vicksburg District has overall responsibility for the maintenance and preparation of Financial Statements, and control systems pertaining to the various accounting entities. Responsibilities Provide program and district managers with accurate and timely financial information Initiate and recommends procedures and policies to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse of resources. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Must include at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: (1) Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate @type and quality. Minimum Qualifications GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) preparing financial statements, and 2) utilizing accounting principles to review financial obligations. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position in a related field(s) of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as business administration, accounting, finance , or public administration.
