Job Title: Superintendent of ConstructionJob Description
This Superintendent of Construction role oversees small field crews on industrial and commercial projects for a general contractor working at local industrial facilities and commercial properties. The Superintendent will lead crews of approximately two to five employees, manage day-to-day field operations, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Supervise, organize, and work alongside a crew of approximately two to five construction workers on industrial and commercial projects.
Review project plans, specifications, and daily work requirements to plan daily activities and assign tasks to the crew.
Clearly communicate expectations, work methods, and safety requirements to all crew members.
Monitor workmanship continuously and ensure completed work meets project plans, specifications, and company quality standards.
Coordinate daily activities with project management, customer representatives, subcontractors, vendors, and other trades to keep work progressing efficiently.
Track labor, materials, equipment usage, and job progress, and provide updates to project management as needed.
Identify material, equipment, and manpower needs in advance to avoid delays and maintain productivity.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site at all times.
Enforce company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and all site-specific industrial or commercial facility rules.
Conduct or participate in safety meetings, pre-task planning, and job hazard assessments as required by the project and facility.
Complete daily reports, time records, material documentation, and other basic job site paperwork accurately and on time.
Use MS Excel to support scheduling tasks such as three-week look-ahead schedules and other planning tools.
Notify project management promptly of scheduling concerns, field conflicts, safety issues, change conditions, or other problems that could affect the project.
Secure the work area, tools, materials, and equipment at the end of each workday to protect company and customer property.
Represent the company professionally in all interactions with employees, customers, subcontractors, and facility personnel.
Essential Skills
Prior experience supervising small construction crews in commercial, industrial, or general construction environments.
At least 5+ years of experience as a construction superintendent, including responsibility for projects of $1+ million in size.
Strong hands-on experience in multiple areas of general construction, including commercial and industrial work.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, written scopes of work, and construction layout.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining productivity, safety, and quality standards.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and support field crews.
Effective communication skills for working with employees, customers, subcontractors, and project management.
Strong organization and problem-solving skills to manage daily activities and resolve field issues.
Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety requirements and standard job site practices.
Ability to use MS Excel for scheduling, including three-week look-ahead schedules and other basic planning activities.
Dependable attendance and the ability to report to local jobsites as scheduled.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Industrial project experience, particularly in active facility environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA 10 certification is preferred and demonstrates a strong commitment to construction safety.
OSHA 30 certification is a plus for candidates with advanced safety training.
Relevant equipment certifications, first-aid training, or other construction-related credentials are beneficial.
Experience working with repeat customers and maintaining long-term client relationships is an advantage.
Familiarity with general contractor operations in commercial and industrial settings.
Ability to work effectively in small geographic markets such as Hartford, CT and Northampton, MA.
Work Environment
This role is primarily onsite at an industrial facility in Springfield, MA, working within an active plant environment with established site-specific rules and safety requirements. The Superintendent will spend most of the time in the field, coordinating and working alongside a small crew, interacting regularly with facility representatives, subcontractors, and other trades. Projects are located within a relatively small geographic area, including Hartford, CT and Northampton, MA, which helps minimize extensive travel. The position offers overtime opportunities at 1.5x pay, access to a company vehicle or vehicle allowance with gas coverage, and participation in year-end bonus and profit-sharing programs. The work environment emphasizes safety, professionalism, and long-term relationships with repeat customers, and provides room for advancement for individuals who perform well and take ownership of their projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicopee, MA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $47.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
