Welder - 1st shift

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position lies out, fits, and welds fabricated components to assemble structural forms, such as frames or cabinets according to job specifications. The Welder selects equipment, plans layout, assembles, and welds while applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assemble and weld cabinets, roof hatches, louvers, frames, tops and bottoms per job specifications.

May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.

Assemble thin metal structures and large frame structures by use of a welder.

May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.

Move assembled product to next production area in order to complete finished product per job specification.

Ensure the safe operation of equipment.

Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

Report immediately to supervisor/lead/manager any and all problems, which may affect safety, equipment, tooling, and/or quality.

Maintain full working knowledge of all processes.

Ensure a clean and organized work environment.

Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.

Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Tenacity in overcoming obstacles while maintaining productive and positive working relationships.

Ability to execute in a rapidly changing fast paced environment that requires strong team work.

Understanding of all tools, gages, equipment, and other various instruments used to perform position.

Ability to read and understand a measuring tape.

Knowledge of M.I.G and T.I.G. welding techniques.

Basic ability to understand blue prints, schematics, and instrumentation diagrams.

Skill in performing accurate arithmetic functions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; using decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

One year of applicable welding experience.

Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.

Preferred:

Vocational certification or degree.

Experience in a similar manufacturing setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the building. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch.

The employee must regularly lift up to 60 pounds and move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The employee may be required to work with hazardous materials. The employee may be exposed to hot surfaces, hot air, electrical hazards, and flames. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works with moving machinery and occasionally in outside weather.
