Job Title: Shipping Clerk
Job Description
This role supports a premier job shop environment that handles extremely expensive, large-sized parts by managing shipping activities with precision and care. You will work closely with production and logistics teams to ensure all parts are prepared, packaged, documented, and shipped accurately and on time.
Responsibilities
Prepare outgoing shipments for extremely expensive, large-sized parts in a job shop environment, ensuring all items are handled with great care and accuracy.
Read and interpret blueprints and related documentation to verify part specifications, quantities, and shipping requirements.
Use hand and power tools safely to assist with preparing parts for shipment, including securing, bracing, or packaging components as needed.
Operate a sit-down forklift to move large and heavy parts, pallets, and materials within the shipping and warehouse areas.
Measure parts and materials accurately using a tape measure to confirm dimensions before packaging and shipment.
Use Excel to create, update, and maintain shipping logs, tracking sheets, and other shipment-related records.
Coordinate with internal teams to confirm shipping schedules, special handling requirements, and any customer-specific instructions.
Inspect shipments for completeness and accuracy, ensuring all required documentation and labels accompany each shipment.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping area by following established housekeeping and safety procedures.
Follow all company policies and safety guidelines when using tools, forklifts, and other equipment in the shipping department.
Essential Skills
Proven experience working as a Shipping Clerk in a job shop or similar manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with hand and power tools used to prepare parts and materials for shipment.
Experience operating a sit-down forklift to move large and heavy parts safely.
Ability to accurately use a tape measure and other basic measuring tools.
Working knowledge of Excel for maintaining shipping records, logs, and tracking information.
Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working around large, precision-machined parts.
Attention to detail and accuracy when handling high-value parts and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in a premier job shop environment handling high-value, large-sized parts.
Comfort working in a structured shipping and logistics setting with defined procedures.
Ability to collaborate effectively with production, quality, and logistics teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
