The Medical Assistant provides front and back office support in a busy clinical setting, ensuring that patients receive timely follow-ups, accurate updates, and a positive experience. This role focuses on patient communication, data entry, lab coordination, and general clinical support while working closely with providers and other healthcare staff.
Responsibilities
Perform follow-ups with patients to ensure continuity of care and address any outstanding clinical needs.
Update patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR), specifically using Athena.
Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, assisting patients with questions, scheduling, and follow-up needs.
Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits, ensuring accurate and efficient appointment scheduling.
Order laboratory tests as directed and ensure all lab orders are entered correctly into the EMR system.
Relay lab results to patients and clinical staff in accordance with established protocols and documentation requirements.
Provide clinical support to healthcare providers, including basic medical assisting tasks as allowed by training and certification.
Support front desk operations as needed, including greeting patients, verifying information, and coordinating patient flow.
Deliver high-quality customer service to patients, families, and internal staff in person and over the phone.
Utilize medical terminology and healthcare processes correctly when documenting, communicating, and coordinating patient care.
Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records and medical documentation.
Collaborate with the clinical team to support patient care, healthcare operations, and overall clinic efficiency.
Adhere to clinic policies, procedures, and safety standards, including proper handling of patient information and insurance details.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience in medical assisting or a similar clinical support role.
Medical assisting experience and familiarity with common clinical workflows in a clinic setting.
High School Diploma.
Ability to perform data entry and maintain accurate electronic medical records.
Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, specifically Athena.
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation practices.
Ability to order labs and manage lab-related documentation and communication.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients and staff.
Comfort with answering and managing inbound phone calls in a healthcare environment.
Basic understanding of insurance and healthcare processes.
Ability to support both front desk and clinical functions as needed.
Reliability in maintaining patient confidentiality and following clinic protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Medical Assisting diploma or certification, or 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience preferred but not required.
Experience in appointment scheduling and patient care coordination.
Background in healthcare, medical office, or clinical support environments.
Familiarity with electronic health records and electronic medical record systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
Customer service experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is beneficial.
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar credential is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment and manage multiple tasks.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a clinic, providing direct support to patients and healthcare providers in a professional medical environment. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., offering a stable daytime workweek. The clinic uses electronic medical record systems, including Athena, and standard healthcare technologies and equipment. Team members work in a collaborative setting focused on patient care and service. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a retirement plan with 401(k), and holiday pay for six paid holidays. Upon conversion to a permanent role, employees are eligible for nine paid holidays and 15 days of paid time off (PTO). Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
