Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
This Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on developing innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical products from concept through production. You will create detailed 3D models and manufacturing-ready drawings, ensure designs meet structural, safety, and ergonomic requirements, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to new product introduction (NPI) in a growing, innovation-focused environment while supporting low-to-mid volume, high-mix manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Collaborate on the design and development of new innovative products, enhancements, and technologies to meet market needs.
Create detailed 3D models, large assemblies, and manufacturing-ready fabrication drawings using SolidWorks.
Ensure that all designs meet structural, safety, and ergonomic requirements.
Review design documentation for feasibility, manufacturability, and accuracy.
Work with suppliers to coordinate proto@type builds and ensure design expectations are clearly communicated and met.
Collaborate closely with CNC fabrication, sheet metal bending, and assembly teams to optimize designs for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
Support configurable or custom-engineered products through the full design lifecycle.
Provide hands-on production support and participate in prototyping activities as needed.
Check design files in and out, resolve version conflicts, and manage engineering data workflows within SolidWorks PDM.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technical requirements, schedules, and project milestones are achieved.
Provide technical assistance and guidance to colleagues and other departments as needed.
Contribute to building and maintaining a positive, open culture that encourages cooperation, collaboration, and clear work instructions.
Handle and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and urgency.
Perform other engineering and design-related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
5+ years of experience in an engineering design environment.
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
2+ years of experience in the design of consumer or industrial products (electro-mechanical and mechanical), including new product introduction (NPI).
Proficiency in CAD software with SolidWorks experience required.
Demonstrated ability to create detailed 3D models, large assemblies, and manufacturing-ready drawings using SolidWorks.
Knowledge of engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods.
Experience using SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through prior work experience and/or hands-on projects or hobbies.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve technical issues.
Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, collaborative team environment.
Self-motivated and creative, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
High degree of accuracy and a strong sense of urgency in delivering engineering work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience using SolidWorks PDM in conjunction with ERP or MRP software.
Experience with configurable or custom-engineered products.
Experience supporting low-to-mid volume, high-mix manufacturing environments.
Hands-on production support and prototyping experience.
Experience designing with sheet metal and understanding of related fabrication processes.
Ability to collaborate effectively with CNC fabrication, sheet metal bending, and assembly teams.
Strong communication skills to work effectively with suppliers, production, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Interest in contributing to a growing, innovation-driven company and product portfolio.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in Eagan in a hands-on engineering and manufacturing environment. You will work closely with CNC fabrication, sheet metal bending, and assembly teams, as well as suppliers and cross-functional colleagues. The workplace emphasizes collaboration, open communication, and a positive culture that rewards cooperation and teamwork. You will regularly use SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, Microsoft Office, and related engineering and product data management tools to support design and production activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eagan, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $48.07/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
