Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Job Description
The Accounting Assistant supports day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on accounts payable, invoice processing, and inventory control. This role combines office-based accounting responsibilities with regular visits to the warehouse to perform physical inventory cycle counts and maintain accurate records in the ERP system. The position offers an opportunity for either contract-to-hire or direct hire for the right candidate who demonstrates strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Support daily accounts payable activities to ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor payments.
Match all incoming invoices with the appropriate supporting documentation to verify accuracy and completeness.
Enter invoices into the accounting software and schedule them for payment in accordance with established timelines and procedures.
Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues by working closely with vendors and internal stakeholders.
Correspond with vendors and respond promptly and professionally to all vendor inquiries.
Provide complete and accurate supporting documentation for annual audits and other financial reviews as needed.
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly physical cycle counts in multiple stockrooms within the warehouse.
Provide and update inventory control reports as required to support accurate inventory management and decision-making.
Maintain an efficient and consistent process for physical cycle counting across all inventory categories.
Ensure count accuracy in the ERP system by reconciling physical counts with system quantities and making necessary adjustments.
Dispose of obsolete inventory as directed, following established procedures and documentation requirements.
Maintain organization and cleanliness within each stockroom to support efficient inventory control and safe operations.
Collaborate with colleagues in accounting and operations to support continuous improvement in inventory and accounts payable processes.
Work independently on assigned tasks while managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of experience in an accounting assistant or similar accounting support role.
Hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
Practical knowledge of general accounting procedures and principles.
Experience with invoice entry, reconciliation, and resolving invoice discrepancies.
Ability to perform inventory-related tasks, including cycle counts and reconciliation.
Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in all work.
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness and ability to go into the warehouse on a weekly basis to perform inventory cycle counts.
Ability to stand on feet for the majority of the day as needed for warehouse and stockroom activities.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds in the course of performing inventory and stockroom duties.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with an ERP system for inventory and accounting is highly beneficial.
Experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment is a plus.
Strong organizational skills to maintain orderly stockrooms and accurate records.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Interest in a contract-to-hire or direct hire opportunity with potential for long-term growth.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in a manufacturing environment and involves a mix of office and warehouse work. In the office, you will work primarily on a computer using accounting software, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications to manage invoices, reconciliations, and reports. In the warehouse and stockrooms, you will spend approximately 1-2 hours per day performing physical inventory cycle counts, verifying 1-2 parts per day, and maintaining organized storage areas. The position requires standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds while handling inventory items. You will work in a fast-paced setting with multiple responsibilities, collaborating with both office staff and warehouse personnel in a professional, team-oriented culture focused on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
