Job Summary
We are seeking a Deputy Program Manager to help plan, align, and deliver complex technology programs for government and mission-focused customers. This role partners closely with a Senior Program Manager and works across multidisciplinary teams to drive integrated planning, stakeholder alignment, and successful delivery outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings strong program management experience in technology-driven environments and is comfortable working across requirements development, integrated planning, systems integration, testing, technology assessment, governance, and customer engagement. This position is well suited for someone who can balance disciplined execution with adaptability as mission needs evolve.
This role requires domestic and international travel, including occasional multi-day or weeklong trips, to support customer meetings, site visits, technical reviews, capability assessments, and key program activities. Travel may be more frequent during startup phases or critical delivery periods.

Responsibilities
Program Planning and Execution
Partner with the Senior Program Manager to manage day-to-day delivery of complex technology programs across multiple workstreams.
Establish, maintain, and improve program management processes that align scope, schedule, resources, deliverables, and dependencies.
Develop and maintain key program artifacts, including integrated schedules, milestone plans, action trackers, risk and issue logs, and status reports.
Facilitate kickoff meetings, program reviews, technical exchange meetings, working groups, and leadership briefings.
Identify, track, and escalate risks, issues, schedule variances, and dependencies that may affect delivery.
Technical Coordination and Integration
Collect, analyze, and track operational and technical requirements to inform planning and delivery.
Develop and maintain planning artifacts such as requirements trackers, assumption logs, architecture inputs, and decision-support materials.
Work with technical leads on system architecture, interface planning, interoperability, and integration of hardware, software, communications, sensors, and data systems.
Plan integration activities across complex operating environments, ensuring technical work aligns with cybersecurity, safety, operational suitability, and mission objectives.
Capability Assessment, Testing, and Transition
Conduct and support capability assessments, infrastructure reviews, gap analyses, site visits, requirements collection, technical reviews, and capability planning activities for customer and partner sites.
Evaluate emerging and existing technologies for mission relevance, maturity, interoperability, scalability, and risk.
Organize proto@type, pilot, experimentation, test, and evaluation activities that inform solution readiness and program decisions.
Document lessons learned, results, recommendations, and performance information to support iterative improvement.
Assist with transition, fielding, scaling, and handoff planning for validated solutions.
Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain governance processes that provide visibility, accountability, cross-functional alignment, and effective risk, issue, dependency, and change management.
Engage customers, mission partners, industry, academia, domestic and international stakeholders, and internal teams.
Prepare status updates, briefings, meeting materials, and decision-support packages for technical, non-technical, and leadership audiences.
Ensure collaboration aligns with applicable security, compliance, and export requirements.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, systems engineering, computer science, physical science, business, program management, or a related field.
8+ years of relevant professional experience with complex technical programs, projects, or portfolios.
5+ years of project and/or program management experience in a matrixed environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage technology program delivery across scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, deliverables, and cross-functional teams.
Background in requirements development, technical planning, systems integration, testing, mission support, or related execution activities.
Ability to develop and maintain program management artifacts, including integrated schedules, trackers, status reports, briefing materials, and decision-support documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical teams, non-technical audiences, customer stakeholders, senior leaders, and external partners.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required for meetings, site assessments, technical reviews, and key program activities.
Active security clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain one, as required by the program.
Ability to satisfy contract-specific security, access, compliance, and export-related requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering, systems engineering, computer science, analytics, business, or a related field.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or a similar credential.
Background supporting defense, national security, test and evaluation, experimentation, operational integration, or mission-focused technology programs.
Experience with integrated master schedules, requirements traceability, configuration management, structured governance, and transition planning.
Familiarity with systems engineering, interface control, network architecture, data architecture, interoperability, cross-domain solutions, and cybersecurity.
Exposure to rapid prototyping, pilot programs, technology assessment, fielding activities, live/virtual/constructive environments, mission integration, test infrastructure, instrumentation, or data visualization and analysis environments.
Experience engaging with government customers, mission partners, industry, academia, non-traditional vendors, or international collaborators.
Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base compensation range for this role is $128,000 - $183,000, in addition to eligibility for an annual short term incentive compensation target and comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
