Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the in-house mechanical design and CAD development of next-generation display systems for GM's Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). In this role, you will be responsible for creating innovative mechanical design solutions that integrate advanced electronics, styling requirements, manufacturability, and vehicle packaging constraints.
You will own the mechanical architecture and CAD development for display systems, including styled surfaces, decorative components, display panels, PCBs, connectors, mounting strategies, and B-side integration features such as clips, fasteners, and attachment structures. Success in this role requires strong collaboration across Engineering, Design Studio, Manufacturing, CAE, and supplier teams to deliver world-class display experiences.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex integration challenges, influencing vehicle programs from concept through production, and driving best practices in virtual vehicle integration and display design.
What You'll Do
LeadmechanicaldesignandCADdevelopmentforvehicledisplaysystemsandrelatedelectronicsintegration.
Create andoptimizepackagingconcepts,virtuallayouts,anddesignsolutionsthatmeetsystem,styling,manufacturing,andprogramrequirements.
DevelopandmaintainCADmodels,assemblies,andreleasedatausingGM'sengineeringtoolsanddatamanagementsystems.
DrivedisplayintegrationactivitiesthroughoutmultiplephasesoftheGlobalVehicleDevelopmentProcess(GVDP).
Performpackagingstudies,clearanceanalysis,tolerancereviews,anddesignevaluationstosupportvehicleintegration.
WorkcloselywithCAEteamstoimprovedesignsthroughsimulation,analysis,andvalidationresults.
Facilitatedesignreviewsandproviderecommendationsregardingarchitecture,manufacturability,assembly,andsystemintegration.
Mentorengineersanddesignersondisplaydesignstandards,CADmethodologies,virtualintegrationprocesses,andbestpractices.
Supportcontinuousimprovementthroughlessonslearned,standardsdevelopment,andimplementationofadvancedmodelingtechniques.
Releaseengineeringdataanddocumentationontimewithafocusonqualityandcompliance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop,refine,andmaintaindisplaydesigncriteria,typicalsections,andstandardmodelingmethods.
Ownvirtualintegrationmethodsandbestpracticesfordisplaysystems.
ApplyDesignforManufacturing(DFM)andDesignforAssembly(DFA)principlesthroughoutthedesignprocess.
Createandmaintainmaterial,mass,andcomponentspecifications.
Independentlyintegratesubsystemandcomponentdesignsintocompletevehiclearchitectures.
Generatealternativeconceptsandrecommendsolutionsthatbalanceperformance,cost,quality,andmanufacturability.
Collaborateeffectivelywithglobalengineeringteams,designstudios,suppliers,andcross-functionalpartners.
Staycurrentonemergingdisplaytechnologies,vehicleinteriortrends,andadvancedmanufacturingmethods.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor'sdegreeinMechanicalEngineering,ProductDesign,orarelatedtechnicalfieldwith3+yearsofproductdesignexperience,OR
10+yearsofproductdesignexperienceinlieuofatechnicaldegree.
ExperienceusingGMengineeringtools,including:
NX
Teamcenter
VisMockup
CADreleaseanddatamanagementsystems
Strongunderstandingofproductdevelopmentandmanufacturingprocessesincluding:
Injectionmolding
Stamping
Machining
Extrusion
Knowledgeofvehicledevelopmentprocessesandengineeringreleasesystems.
ExperiencesupportingCAD-baseddesignandvehicleintegrationactivities.
WorkingknowledgeofCAE-supporteddesigndevelopment.
ProficiencywithMicrosoftOfficeSuite.
Abilitytoindependentlysolvecomplexdesignchallengeswhiledrivingalignmentacrosscross-functionalteams.
