Job Description
The Accessioner I plays a critical role in a fast-paced clinical laboratory by receiving, processing, and accurately documenting patient specimens for testing and analysis. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals who are highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to quality and accuracy. Working closely with laboratory and operations teams, the Accessioner I ensures that all specimens are properly handled and entered into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), directly supporting timely and reliable patient care.
Responsibilities
Receive, inspect, and process patient specimens for clinical testing in accordance with established procedures.
Verify patient and specimen information and ensure accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Perform specimen accessioning following defined protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Manage and maintain clinical and specimen-related information within laboratory databases to support accurate testing and reporting.
Conduct internal audits and quality checks to ensure data integrity, completeness, and compliance with laboratory standards.
Collaborate with laboratory and operations teams to support efficient workflow and timely testing.
Follow all laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines while handling specimens and operating within the laboratory.
Maintain high levels of productivity and accuracy while consistently meeting established turnaround times.
Prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment to ensure that all specimens are processed within required timeframes.
Communicate clearly and professionally with team members to resolve issues and support continuous process improvement.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
0-2 years of experience in a laboratory, healthcare, specimen processing, or data-entry environment.
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry and documentation.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Comfort working overnight on a consistent 3rd shift schedule.
Basic familiarity with laboratory or clinical workflows, including handling of patient specimens.
Proficiency with computer-based data entry and working within database or information management systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Background or coursework in biology, laboratory science, or a related discipline.
Experience with specimen processing in a clinical or laboratory environment.
Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or similar database systems.
Demonstrated interest in building a career in the healthcare or laboratory industry.
Ability to contribute positively to a collaborative, team-oriented culture.
Work Environment
This position is based in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment focused on supporting patient care through accurate and timely testing. The role operates on a 3rd shift schedule, working Friday through Tuesday from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with an additional 15% differential for overnight hours. You will work with patient specimens and use a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other laboratory databases to manage clinical information. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including proper specimen handling and laboratory protocols. Team members collaborate closely while also working independently to meet turnaround times and productivity expectations. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Agoura Hills, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.85 - $21.85/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
