Job Summary
Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) to join our Pain Management team in Dallas, Texas. This position provides comprehensive pain management care across both outpatient clinic and inpatient settings. The AGACNP will work collaboratively with a dedicated Pain Management physician to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with acute and chronic pain conditions.
This role includes comprehensive patient assessments, medication management, development and implementation of individualized treatment plans, inpatient consultations, patient education, and ongoing follow-up care. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, experience managing complex pain patients, and a commitment to delivering evidence-based, compassionate care.
The practice is located at the Baylor Scott & White Pain Center at Baylor University Medical Center and offers a collaborative environment supported by experienced physicians, APPs, and clinical staff.
Essential Functions of the Role
Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
Evaluates and manages patients with acute, chronic, and complex pain conditions in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs.
Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies and other pain management treatment modalities. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
Provides ongoing medication management, including monitoring treatment response, medication effectiveness, and potential side effects.
Formulates and implements individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members as needed.
Counsels patients and families on pain management strategies, illness management, medications, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and health promotion.
Maintains appropriate records detailing treatment plans and outcomes within the electronic medical record.
Provides consultation-level services for pain management conditions and assists with inpatient pain management needs.
Manages patients in a variety of healthcare settings, including outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital environments.
Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and proficiency as delegated by the supervising physician.
Initiates timely consultations and referrals when patient needs exceed scope of practice or expertise.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives and promotes positive patient outcomes and experiences.
May be required to perform patient care duties beyond the regular schedule based on departmental coverage needs.
Key Success Factors

Knowledge of values, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
Experience managing patients requiring long-term medication therapy and multidisciplinary treatment plans.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a state in the Nurse Licensure Compact for RNs and LVNs, and Texas APRN.
Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Texas.
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
Certification from an accredited board as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) required.
Qualifications
Required
Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
Current Texas APRN licensure.
National certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
Minimum one (1) year of Nurse Practitioner experience.
Preferred
Pain Management experience strongly preferred.
Experience in PM&R, Orthopedics, Spine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Rheumatology, or related specialties.
Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Experience with chronic pain management and medication management.
Epic EMR experience.
