Hotel Kansas City sets the standard for grand hospitality from within the historic Kansas City Club Building, blending more than a century of history with modern luxury. With 144 guest rooms, acclaimed food and beverage experiences, and approximately 20,000 square feet of distinctive meeting and event space, we create memorable weddings, celebrations, and events.
We are seeking an experienced hospitality sales professional who can translate this unique product into meaningful client relationships, strong conversion, and profitable revenue growth.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Sales, Marketing & Events, the Sales Manager - Weddings & Local Catering is responsible for proactively generating, developing, and converting wedding and local catering business to achieve assigned revenue goals and maximize event profitability.
This is a revenue-producing, client-facing sales role requiring strong sales instincts, disciplined pipeline management, polished presentation skills, and independent execution. The Sales Manager owns opportunities from initial inquiry through contracting and transition to event execution, while partnering closely with hotel teams to deliver experiences consistent with Hotel Kansas City's luxury positioning.
Success requires both relationship-building and disciplined execution, with clear accountability for pipeline activity, conversion, revenue production, accuracy, and follow-through.
This position is eligible for a quarterly bonus based on financial goals and other related performance metrics.
This position works primarily Monday through Friday, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays, and variable hours based on client and business needs.
What You'll Do
Sales & Business Development
Own and actively manage wedding and local catering business from initial inquiry through definite booking.
Achieve assigned individual revenue, pace, production, and pipeline goals.
Maintain an active and accurate sales funnel and consistently advance qualified opportunities through the sales cycle.
Proactively generate new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, community relationships, outside sales activity, and industry events.
Respond to new leads within established service standards and maintain disciplined, personalized follow-up through conversion or disposition.
Identify opportunities to increase revenue through upselling, creative packaging, space optimization, and strategic recommendations.
Maintain awareness of competitive activity, market trends, client preferences, and local demand to identify new business opportunities.
Accurately forecast wedding and local catering production and contribute to departmental revenue and sales strategy discussions.
Client Experience & Conversion
Conduct polished, strategic, and memorable site inspections that showcase the value, history, luxury positioning, and distinctive experiences of Hotel Kansas City.
Qualify client needs and tailor tours, proposals, recommendations, and follow-up to maximize the likelihood of conversion.
Build trusted relationships with prospective couples, planners, event professionals, community partners, and other decision-makers.
Communicate confidently and professionally across telephone, email, virtual, and in-person interactions.
Prepare accurate proposals, contracts, amendments, and related sales documents consistent with hotel standards and applicable policies.
Exercise sound judgment regarding event spaces, timing, operational conditions, guest impact, and cross-departmental considerations when developing proposals and conducting tours.
Maintain ownership of client follow-up and proactively address barriers that may prevent opportunities from progressing toward contract.
Execution & Hotel Partnership
Manage competing client needs, deadlines, administrative requirements, and sales activity with appropriate independence and urgency.
Maintain accurate sales reports, forecasts, schedules, CRM information, and other required departmental records.
Apply established procedures, prior guidance, and feedback consistently while raising focused questions early when clarification is needed.
Partner closely with Culinary, Banquets, Operations, Revenue, and other hotel teams to ensure client commitments are realistic, profitable, and executable.
Support a seamless transition from sales to event execution while maintaining appropriate ownership of client commitments.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Required
3-5 years of progressive hotel sales experience with demonstrated success generating and closing wedding, catering, social, or related group business in a full-service, upscale, luxury, lifestyle, or independent hotel environment.
Proven track record of achieving individual revenue goals and managing a sales pipeline from prospecting and lead generation through contract execution.
Experience conducting client site inspections, developing customized proposals, negotiating contracts, and closing complex event business.
Strong consultative selling, relationship-building, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent a luxury hospitality brand confidently and professionally.
Strong organization, judgment, attention to detail, and ability to independently manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, CRM/sales systems, and standard business technology.
Ability to interpret sales activity, pipeline, pace, conversion, and revenue data and adjust selling strategy accordingly.
Preferred
Luxury, lifestyle, independent, or upper-upscale hotel experience.
Bachelor's degree.
