Sr. Tax Accountant

Description We are looking for a Sr. Tax Accountant to support a manufacturing organization in Aurora, Illinois through a Long-term Contract assignment. This role will oversee a broad range of direct and indirect tax activities across federal, state, and local jurisdictions, while helping the business stay compliant, reduce risk, and respond effectively to audits. The position also works closely with finance and operational partners to provide practical tax guidance, support reporting accuracy, and address complex tax matters affecting ongoing business activities.

Responsibilities:

Direct sales and use tax filings and related indirect tax obligations, ensuring submissions are accurate, complete, and delivered within required deadlines.

Manage property tax reporting activities, including filings, assessment reviews, audit support, and identification of opportunities to improve tax positions.

Assist with federal and multi-state income tax compliance, covering income, franchise, and excise tax matters with a focus on technical accuracy and timely execution.

Calculate and coordinate required tax payments so liabilities are settled correctly and on schedule.

Lead or support tax examinations across sales and use, property, federal, and state matters, preparing documentation and working toward efficient resolution of open issues.

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may affect the business, communicate implications to stakeholders, and help implement necessary compliance updates.

Partner with finance teams on tax accounting and statutory audit support, including matters related to tax provision reporting under ASC 740.

Provide tax guidance to leadership and cross-functional teams on operational decisions, special projects, and risk-sensitive issues.

Gather and analyze asset and valuation data from internal departments to support complete and accurate property tax reporting.

Help maintain tax-related system and process compliance, including the effective use of tools such as SAP and tax provision software where applicable. Requirements

5+ years of tax experience, including work supporting manufacturing organizations or clients within a public accounting environment.

Strong background in indirect tax, sales and use tax, property tax, and corporate tax compliance across federal and state jurisdictions.

Experience with tax provision and financial reporting matters, including familiarity with ASC 740 concepts.

Exposure to tax audits, audit defense activities, and resolving notices or assessments from taxing authorities.

Working knowledge of transfer pricing concepts and related U.S. tax considerations is preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with experience using OneSource Tax Provision Software.

Familiarity with SAP and the ability to work with tax-related data and reporting tools.

CPA designation is preferred, along with strong written and verbal English communication skills.

The salary range for this position is $45/hour to $50/hour. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
