Job Summary:

We are seeking a Plumber to join our Construction Services Group in San Diego, CA. This position primarily supports installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs commercial plumbing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair throughout campus facilities.
Installs and repairs domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, storm drain, compressed air, and other facility piping systems.
Installs plumbing fixtures and equipment, including sinks, toilets, urinals, faucets, water heaters, pumps, valves, backflow devices, and related components.
Reads and interprets construction drawings, specifications, sketches, and plumbing diagrams to determine job requirements.
Lays out plumbing work and determines appropriate materials, fittings, pipe sizes, and installation methods.
Performs pipe cutting, threading, soldering, brazing, grooving, pressing, and joining using approved methods and materials.
Troubleshoots leaks, blockages, pressure problems, damaged piping, and malfunctioning plumbing fixtures or equipment.
Supports facility +maintenance, and construction projects, including demolition, underground plumbing, rough-in, fixture installation, testing, and project closeout.
Works collaboratively with electricians, HVAC technicians, carpenters, painters, general construction personnel, engineering, and project management.
Ensures all work complies with applicable plumbing codes, safety requirements, company procedures, and approved construction documents.
Performs inspections, pressure testing, leak testing, and operational testing to verify proper system installation and performance.
Identifies required materials, tools, and equipment needed to complete assigned work.
Maintains accurate documentation of completed work, material usage, system changes, and field conditions.
Responds to service requests and plumbing emergencies and helps identify practical, cost-effective solutions.
Operates hand tools, power tools, drain-cleaning equipment, pipe-threading machines, lifts, and other trade-related equipment.
Maintains a clean and safe work area and follows required lockout/tagout, confined-space, fall-protection, and hot-work procedures.
May provide guidance or technical support to less-experienced employees and other members of the Construction Services team.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, military class 'C' school or Military Occupation Specialty (MOS), and five or more years of progressive experience as an apprentice plumber or HVAC mechanic. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship, trade school program, or equivalent combination of education and professional plumbing experience is desired.
California plumbing certification, journeyman status, backflow certification, medical-gas certification, or other relevant trade certifications are preferred but not required.
Experience performing commercial or industrial plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
Working knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, fittings, fixtures, valves, pumps, and installation methods.
Ability to read and interpret plumbing drawings, construction plans, specifications, schematics, and equipment manuals.
Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, OSHA requirements, and safe work practices.
Experience with copper, cast iron, PVC, CPVC, PEX, stainless steel, and other commonly used piping materials.
Ability to troubleshoot plumbing problems and determine appropriate corrective actions with limited supervision.
Ability to accurately measure, lay out, fabricate, install, test, and repair piping systems.
Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with other trades, customers, engineers, supervisors, and project managers.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary construction and facilities team.
Ability to prioritize multiple service requests and construction assignments in an active campus environment.
Basic computer skills to review work orders, drawings, emails, and project information.
Must be able to lift and carry plumbing materials and equipment, work from ladders or lifts, work in confined areas, and perform physical duties associated with the plumbing trade.
Must be willing to work occasional overtime, weekends, shutdowns, or respond to urgent plumbing conditions when required.
Experience working in commercial, industrial, manufacturing, aerospace, laboratory, or other regulated facilities is preferred.
Valid California driver's license with a good driving record.
May require the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
