The Supply Chain Manager leads all procurement, materials management, inventory control, and end-to-end supply chain activities that support plant operations in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role works closely with production, purchasing, suppliers, planning, shipping, receiving, and business leaders to ensure efficient material flow from procurement through customer delivery while meeting business objectives, inventory targets, and operational performance goals. It is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys driving operational excellence, leading teams, and implementing strategic supply chain improvements.
Responsibilities
Lead procurement and materials management activities, including supplier management, purchasing, negotiations, and order placement to ensure reliable and cost-effective material supply.
Oversee inventory control and material planning processes to support manufacturing operations and consistently meet customer delivery commitments.
Partner with production planning teams to support MRP and MRPII functions, ensuring accurate manufacturing resource planning and alignment with demand.
Drive supplier performance through clear metrics, supplier certification initiatives, and structured cost reduction programs.
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of ERP and MRP systems, inventory data, and materials planning processes, and implement improvements as needed.
Monitor shipping and receiving performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to improve operational efficiency and material flow.
Lead Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), inventory optimization, and material flow improvement initiatives, including Plan for Every Part strategies.
Support lean manufacturing, Kanban, Just-in-Time (JIT), and broader supply chain optimization efforts to reduce waste and improve throughput.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, including forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting, while establishing and monitoring performance metrics.
Provide leadership, coaching, and development for a team of planners, buyers, analysts, and trade compliance personnel, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Support internal and external audits related to procurement, planning, inventory, and supply chain activities, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and procedures.
Collaborate with manufacturing operations to align supply chain strategies with production requirements and business objectives.
Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, service level enhancement, and operational excellence.
Coordinate with supplier quality functions to support supplier certification, supplier managed inventory (SMI), and strategic sourcing initiatives.
Engage in multi-site supply chain coordination when needed to standardize processes and optimize material flow across locations.
Essential Skills
Proven experience in supply chain management within a manufacturing environment, including end-to-end oversight of procurement, materials management, and inventory control.
Hands-on materials management experience, including material planning and inventory optimization to support high-volume production.
Strong procurement and purchasing expertise, including supplier negotiations, order placement, and supplier relationship management.
Deep knowledge of inventory control practices, including cycle counting, accuracy improvement, and inventory optimization strategies.
Experience with MRP and MRPII systems and processes, including configuration, data integrity, and integration with production planning.
Background in production planning and coordination with manufacturing operations to align supply, demand, and capacity.
Demonstrated supplier management skills, including performance measurement, certification initiatives, and corrective action management.
Experience working closely with manufacturing operations to support throughput, on-time delivery, and operational performance goals.
Proven team leadership and people management skills, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
High-volume manufacturing experience with a strong understanding of the challenges and requirements of large-scale production environments.
Track record of cost reduction and continuous improvement in supply chain, procurement, and materials management.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with SAP ERP or similar enterprise resource planning systems.
Background in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes and tools.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and methods for waste reduction and process improvement.
Experience implementing and managing Kanban systems to support pull-based material replenishment.
Familiarity with Just-in-Time (JIT) methodologies and their application in manufacturing environments.
Experience with Plan for Every Part (PFEP) or similar material flow planning methodologies.
Exposure to supplier quality initiatives, including supplier certification and performance improvement programs.
Strategic sourcing experience, including supplier selection, category management, and long-term supply agreements.
Experience with Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) programs and collaborative replenishment models.
Budget management experience, including development, oversight, and reporting of departmental budgets.
Professional certifications such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, or CPM, or a strong interest in obtaining such credentials.
Aerospace manufacturing experience, including familiarity with industry-specific requirements and standards, is a plus.
Experience in multi-site supply chain leadership, coordinating processes and performance across multiple facilities.
Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing environment with close collaboration across production, planning, purchasing, shipping, receiving, and trade compliance functions. The Supply Chain Manager leads a team of approximately ten professionals, including planners, buyers, analysts, and trade compliance specialists. The work involves frequent use of ERP and MRP systems, data analysis tools, and standard office and plant-based equipment, with regular interaction on the production floor to understand material flow and operational needs. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $103000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
