Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution EquipmentJob Description
This role focuses on the design, execution, and support of custom low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment within a manufacturing environment. The Electrical Engineer reviews customer specifications, contract drawings, and project requirements to develop accurate engineering designs and documentation that enable efficient manufacturing and successful project execution. The position works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, motor control centers, and related power distribution equipment are designed correctly from the outset and meet all applicable standards and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
Review customer specifications, contract drawings, purchase orders, and project requirements to develop compliant and accurate engineering solutions.
Design and modify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, and related engineering documentation using AutoCAD.
Generate, update, and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and all supporting engineering documentation required for manufacturing and project execution.
Support the engineering and manufacturing of low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, motor control centers (MCCs), and other power distribution equipment.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and codes, including UL, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NEC, and applicable customer specifications.
Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, testing, and mechanical engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful execution.
Identify design issues early in the project lifecycle and proactively resolve technical concerns before equipment reaches production.
Participate in design reviews, customer submittal reviews, inspections, witness testing, and project meetings as required.
Provide technical support on component selection, system integration, and manufacturing concerns while addressing customer requirements.
Support engineering process improvements, standardization efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives across products and processes.
Evaluate the constructability and manufacturability of designs to ensure equipment can be built efficiently, safely, and correctly in a production environment.
Manage engineering projects independently from initial design through manufacturing release, ensuring adherence to scope, quality, and schedule.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
3+ years of experience supporting electrical engineering projects within a manufacturing environment.
Experience with low-voltage and/or medium-voltage power distribution equipment.
Hands-on experience creating and modifying electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, engineering documentation, and bills of materials (BOMs).
Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation.
Ability to interpret customer specifications, contract drawings, and electrical requirements and translate them into compliant designs.
Working knowledge of electrical engineering standards and codes, including UL, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, and NEC.
Demonstrated experience in electrical design for power distribution systems, including switchgear, switchboards, control panels, and control systems.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, testing, and mechanical design teams.
Ability to manage projects independently from initial design through manufacturing release in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
3+ years of experience in electrical design within a manufacturing facility, particularly in power distribution or related equipment.
Experience in environments such as switchgear manufacturing, switchboard manufacturing, motor control centers (MCCs), industrial electrical equipment manufacturing, utility power distribution equipment, or electrical assemblies and control systems supporting power distribution.
Background in designing or supporting low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems for utilities and commercial operations.
Experience with switchgear, control panels, control system design, and power distribution systems, including utilities and switchboards.
Familiarity with UL standards such as UL508, UL508A, and related UL requirements for power distribution and control equipment.
Experience generating and managing bills of materials (BOMs) and other structured engineering documentation in a manufacturing @context.
Ability to evaluate and improve standardization and continuous improvement initiatives within engineering processes.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
Work Environment
The role is based in a power distribution manufacturing facility focused on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, motor control centers, and related power distribution equipment. The environment involves close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, testing, and mechanical engineering teams on the production floor and in an engineering office setting. Engineers regularly work with AutoCAD and other engineering tools to support design and documentation, while also engaging with production activities such as design reviews, inspections, and witness testing. The facility supports utilities and commercial operations and is expanding with an additional nearby location, offering opportunities to contribute to a growing operation in a hands-on, production-oriented setting.
