Position Description:
Provides advanced clinical care to new and established patients in the outpatient Neurology Clinic as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Evaluates patients, performs physical and neurological examinations, develops and implements treatment plans, orders and reviews diagnostic studies, prescribes medications and therapies as authorized, and provides patient and family education. Works independently and collaboratively with faculty neurologists and other healthcare professionals in accordance with applicable laws, scope-of-practice requirements, approved clinical privileges, and institutional policies. Supports patient access, continuity of care, care coordination, quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. May participate in the education of students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare learners. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions:
Provide outpatient neurological care during a minimum of seven half-day clinical sessions per week, generally representing approximately 21-24 scheduled patient-contact hours, or another schedule established by departmental needs. This position is assigned exclusively to the outpatient clinic within the Department of Neurology.
Evaluate and manage patients with neurological conditions, including obtaining histories, performing examinations, developing diagnoses, ordering and reviewing tests, prescribing treatment, and providing patient education.
Complete all related indirect patient-care activities, including medication refills, patient messages, test-result review, prior authorizations, peer-to-peer reviews, forms, referrals, and care coordination.
Provide timely follow-up for assigned patients and cross-coverage for other providers as requested and within the provider's scope of practice and clinical privileges.
Collaborate with faculty neurologists, clinic staff, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and address clinical concerns.
Participate in the education, orientation, and training of students, residents, fellows, clinical staff, and other healthcare learners as assigned.
Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and comply with billing, coding, privacy, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Comply with applicable billing, coding, documentation, privacy, infection-control, patient-safety, and regulatory requirements.
Support departmental goals related to patient access, continuity of care, clinical productivity, timely appointment availability, quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction
Follow departmental and clinic procedures when requesting changes to clinic schedules or when canceling or rescheduling patient appointments to minimize disruptions in care and preserve patient access.
Travel to outreach clinics in far West Texas to assist Epilepsy patients, 3 times per year ranging from 1 to 2 days.
Remain current with all licensure, certifications, and mandatory compliance and training requirements for this position.
Adhere to all policies, procedures, and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

Required Qualifications:
Graduation for a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer licensee to Texas.
Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
